    Campaigners fighting plans to move Church Stretton's library say they have won their legal battle against Shropshire Council.

    They say the authority conceded the case moments before it was due to be heard by a court in Birmingham.

    The council has not yet commented, but the campaigners say they now want to agree a framework with the council, setting out how the future of the library should be considered.

    The possible privatisation, external of the Land Registry is worrying Telford and Wrekin Council and it has asked for a meeting with a government minister to discuss the future of its offices in the town.

    The authority says the Land Registry employs 300 people locally and they are especially valuable because they are well-paid jobs.

    The council has written to Business Secretary Sajid Javid, as well as the two borough MPs to raise their concerns.

  6. Over 100 Shropshire appointments affected by junior doctors strikepublished at 12:07 British Summer Time 6 April 2016

    The hospitals in Shrewsbury and Telford have postponed 113 outpatient appointments as a result of the strike action by junior doctors.

    No operations have been affected by the 48-hour action.

    The trust running the two hospitals says relations with the British Medical Association locally remain "positive".

    Just in case you weren't among the crowd of 587 for last night's Shropshire Senior Cup, here are some pictures from the match.

    It ended 1-1 after 90 minutes and the game was decided on penalties.

    With both sides looking to win their relegation battles, it was a game for youngsters and fringe-players to make their mark.

    But the goalscorers were two familiar names, Telford's John Cofie and the returning James Wesolowski for Shrewsbury.

    A high school in Powys is breaking council rules by using some of its delegated budget to subsidise the cost of transporting pupils from over the border in Shropshire, a report has shown.

    In five years, Llanfyllin High School paid more than £500,000 on buses for pupils from outside its catchment area.

     This academic year, 149 pupils attend Llanfyllin from the Oswestry area.

  12. Council says Hortonwood can cope with increased trafficpublished at 10:31 British Summer Time 6 April 2016

    Hortonwood can cope with the increased traffic if new homes are built there, Telford and Wrekin Council says.

    Some people living in the area have claimed there will be "traffic chaos", but the authority says Highways England has carried out an assessment and agrees there is enough capacity on surrounding roads.

    The council says the Hortonwood West Development could create about 1,000 jobs.

  13. Fourth junior doctors' strike hits NHSpublished at 10:18 British Summer Time 6 April 2016

    Junior doctors in England are taking part in a fourth walkout in their long-running contract dispute.

    The 48-hour strike started at 08:00 as the doctors prepare legal challenges to the government's decision to impose changes to their pay and conditions from this summer.

    Doctors are again providing emergency cover, but 5,000 operations and procedures have been postponed.

    NHS England said the continued disruption was "deeply regrettable".

    This Saturday, around 60 Goldwing motorbikes will be parading around The Quarry in Shrewsbury, to raise funds for Shropshire and Telford Asperger Carer Support.

    People living near the Hortonwood industrial estate in Telford are worried that expanding the site could be too much for nearby roads.

    The government plans to hand over the land to Telford and Wrekin Council to develop and sell on.

    Telford and Wrekin Council says it could be getting more than £44m from the sale and nearly 3,000 homes could be built.

    Shrewsbury Town beat AFC Telford United 3-2 on penalties last night to win the Shropshire Senior Cup for the second year in a row.

    Telford took the lead early in the second half through John Cofie's stunning 20-yard strike, but the Shrewsbury captain James Weslowski levelled things on his long-awaited return from injury.

    Shrewsbury look set to be without Junior Brown for the rest of the season. He didn't play last night but an MRI scan has shown he's damaged his knee and is likely to be out of action for two months.

    Bad news if you want a ticket to ride on the Flying Scotsman when it visits the Severn Valley Railway in September - they've sold out.

    There were queues at the ticket office yesterday and the railway's website crashed in the morning because of the demand.

    The locomotive, which was the first to reach speeds of over 100mph, is making its return to the tracks after a 10-year, £4.2m refit.

    The West Midlands Ambulance Service is setting up a family liaison network in memory of the Ludlow baby, Kate Stanton-Davies, who died in 2009.

    Kate's Care will work with parents who have lost children unexpectedly.

    The Stanton-Davies family hope it will be adopted nationally.
