    Loyd Grossman is in Shropshire today, to deliver a lecture on heritage, external organised by the University Centre Shrewsbury.

    The talk starts 19:00 at Rowley’s House in Shrewsbury and is the first of a series of lectures on heritage.

    Mr Grossman is well known for Through the Keyhole and his range of ready-made sauces, but has also been involved in a number of arts and history organisations including English Heritage, Heritage Open Days and the Museums and Galleries Commission.

    This week we are featuring the stories of some of the Shropshire people running the London Marathon and this morning we had a visit from Dana Power from Bridgnorth. 

    He's taking part to support Cameron's Fund, which raises money for Asthma UK - dressing up as "Puff the asthma dragon".

    It's his 11th marathon - his second dressed as Puff - and says the more he's run, the more he's enjoyed the atmosphere of the occasion.

  5. Call for greater respect for nursing home staffpublished at 12:23 British Summer Time 20 April 2016

    The group that represents most of the county's nursing homes and home-help agencies says there needs to be a "seismic change in attitude" towards people who work in social care, to attract more people into the job.

    Around 15,000 people work in the care industry in the county and the chairman of Shropshire Partners in Care, external, David Coull, believes a further 6,000 will be needed in the next decade to look after the growing elderly population.

    Mr Coull says pay needs to improve, because many staff get just above the living wage and they need to be given more thanks for the job they do.

    The Telford MP, Lucy Allan, says the number of teenage pregnancies in constituencies like hers could be reduced if support and advice was targeted at the areas that need it.

    She told a parliamentary debate that while Telford's teen pregnancy rates are higher than average, more affluent parts of rural Shropshire have some of the lowest in the country.

  8. Harry Greaves 'resourceful and resilient'published at 11:19 British Summer Time 20 April 2016

    Throughout the search, Harry's family reinforced Harry's experience as an outdoorsman, describing him as "self-reliant and practical".

    Harry's father Simon said his son was "intelligent, idealistic, resourceful and resilient".

    The Lucie Blackman Trust, which supports British people overseas, had been aiding the search and said Harry's body was found in a ravine near to where he was camping.

    Telford and Wrekin Council has shelved its loss-making T-Live summer music festival in the town park. 

    Cabinet papers, to be discussed tomorrow, say despite several offers, the council doesn't feel the artists are suitable.

    T-Live made a loss both years it ran in 2013 and 2014. 

    The authority, however, says it's not ruling out holding an event in the future.

    An online appeal raised more than £31,000 in a matter of days to fund search and rescue operations.

    Helicopters and drones were brought in to support police, friends and family searching on the ground - it is unclear how his body was eventually found

    The British Embassy had also been assisting and the Foreign Office confirmed his death, saying their thoughts were with his family.

    The family of climber Harry Greaves, who's been found dead by search teams, have described him as "one of the loveliest men you could ever hope to meet".

    His body was found in a 40-metre crevice in the Andes mountains. 

    He disappeared in Peru nearly two weeks ago and was last seen heading off on a solo walk from the village of Pisac, on 7 April, two days before his 29th birthday.

    They described him as an "extremely genuine and caring person".   

    "It is with great sadness that we announce that his smile will no longer give such light, he will no longer give calm through his touch, and wisdom through his words." 

    They thanked everyone who'd helped in the search to find Harry. He was due to return home on 10 April.

    A Shropshire man, who'd been missing during a visit to the mountains of Peru, has been found dead. 

    Harry Greaves, from Bronygarth near Oswestry, was last seen setting off on a solo walk, two days before his 29th birthday.

    His body was found in a deep crevice, after an extensive search.   

    The circumstances of his death aren't yet known.
