    Andy Giddings
    BBC Shropshire

The police have thanked a group of young people who found a collection of stolen memorial plaques which had been missing since February 2014.

The 50 brass plaques had been taken from Wellington cemetery and were found in an old suitcase lying in undergrowth alongside a footpath in the woods.

A man has been sent to prison for stealing the plaques, of which only half had been recovered.

    Quote Message

For some families, these plaques will have been the only remaining physical memory of loved ones lost a long time ago. The cemetery arranged at the time for the stolen plaques to be replaced but due to the age of some and incomplete records over time, it was not clear what some of the names and exact inscriptions should have been. Hopefully any such outstanding issues can now be resolved and families will again have that point of reference and remembrance”.

West Mercia Police says it does not currently deploy officers using body-worn filming devices, but has been looking into the possibility and might make a decision about introducing them later this year.

The IPCC has been speaking to the officers and collecting police logs to put together an account of what happened.

    Quote Message

I would like to assure people that we have begun a full and thorough investigation into police contact with Dalian Atkinson prior to his death, including the level and type of force used."
