    Arriva Trains Wales will be running a reduced timetable today after finding faults with all 27 of its class 175 trains yesterday.

    They've had to be taken out of service and investigations are continuing to see what has caused the damage to their wheels.

    Plans for Shrewsbury's £12m north west link road have gone on display in the town, external, to allow people to make comments.

    The proposals include a development of 750 homes and 12 hectares of land set aside for businesses.

    Funding is expected to come from money distributed by the Marches Local Enterprise Partnership and contributions from the developer.

    After this consultation exercise, a formal planning submission will be put together, with the aim of having the road complete by 2021.

  5. Reduced timetable on Arriva Trains Wales routes tomorrowpublished at 17:03 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2018

    Arriva Trains Wales says it is planning to run a reduced timetable through Herefordshire, Shropshire and Cheshire tomorrow, because it is still not sure what caused the damage to one of its trains.

    Network Rail said it had been working since the early hours of the morning to see if the damage had been caused by a problem with the tracks and extra engineers had been drafted in to carry out the "urgent safety checks".

    Arriva said the defect, thought to be a chip in a wheel of one of the carriages, was picked up during "normal checks on our trains" and was not thought to be related to the freezing temperatures.

    But the company warned that the weather could have a further impact on services and advised people not to travel unless absolutely necessary.

    Arriva Trains Wales says it is arranging for buses to take passengers from Hereford to south Wales and Birmingham.

    It has suspended the majority of its "long distance" service today, affecting services travelling through Hereford, Shrewsbury and Crewe.

    The company said it was to allow "urgent safety checks" to be carried out, but there was a limited train service still running between Shrewsbury and Crewe.

    It couldn't say how long the disruption would last.

    West Midlands Railway and Virgin Trains services aren't reporting problems this morning.

    There's major disruption today to Arriva Trains Wales services between Manchester and south Wales.

    That means Arriva Trains Wales services from Manchester, through Cheshire, Shropshire, Herefordshire and into south Wales, are suspended.

    It currently expects disruption to last until at least 12:00 but adds there's no firm estimate of how long it'll last and advises passengers to use tickets on other operators.
