  1. Barnsley Council to tackle big rise in anti-social behaviourpublished at 12:48

    A big rise in anti-social behaviour in Barnsley town centre related to the use of so-called legal highs is to be tackled by the council.

    Problems include drug dealing in the open around Sheffield Road and Wood Street, and legal high wrappers and needles being left in residents' gardens.

    Barnsley Council's cabinet is expected to launch a community consultation with the aim of introducing Public Spaces Protection Orders, external in those places affected.

    A fire service training exercise is going on right now at Doncaster Keepmoat Stadium to test its response to major incidents in South Yorkshire, external.

    "Exercise Keep Valley" will simulate the decontamination of people who've been covered in poisonous chemicals as part of a suspected terrorist attack.

    He's to leave the company in June 2016 to take over as Artistic Director of Chichester Festival Theatre.

  5. Victorian lead water pipes bite the dust in £13m projectpublished at 11:31

    Victorian lead water pipes which supply about 20,000 homes across Yorkshire are to be replaced.

    New polyethylene plastic pipes will ensure lead content in tap water will be kept to a minimum, Yorkshire Water says.

    Work will be carried out in Rotherham, Bradford, York, Leeds, Beverley, Harrogate and Hull and is due to be completed by 2017.

    The scheme will completely remove lead pipes from the 19,000-mile distribution network and replace them with plastic pipes the firm says have a 100-year lifespan.

  7. How will South Yorkshire MPs vote on action in Syria?published at 10:54

    With MPs set to decide whether to back UK air strikes in Syria against militants from so-called Islamic State, we understand seven of our region's MPs intend to vote against the action. 

    These are Sarah Champion, Louise Haigh, Harry Harpham, John Healey, John Mann, Ed Miliband and Dennis Skinner.

    Meanwhile, we understand four of our MPs - Nick Clegg, Michael Dugher, Dan Jarvis and Angela Smith - will vote for air strikes with Caroline Flint saying she's "leaning towards" a vote for bombing.

    Three MPs - Clive Betts, Paul Blomfield and Toby Perkins - say they haven't decided yet.

    We haven't yet been able to get hold of Kevin Barron.

  11. Syria air strikes: South Yorkshire MPs decide whether to support military actionpublished at 08:31

    South Yorkshire's MPs are set to vote later on whether to bomb so-called IS targets in Syria.

    John Healey, Wentworth and Dearne Labour MP, is planning to vote no. He spoke live with Toby Foster on BBC Radio Sheffield earlier this morning. 

    He said David Cameron should apologise for telling Conservative rebels they should not side with Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and what the PM has called a "bunch of terrorist sympathisers".
