  3. Didcot power station: Explosives to be used in demolitionpublished at 17:49 British Summer Time 25 April 2016

    Explosives are to be used to demolish the remaining section of the collapsed Didcot Power Station.

    Four workers were killed and five injured in the collapse in February, with one body recovered from the site.

    The bodies of Ken Cresswell, 57, and John Shaw, 61, both from Rotherham and Christopher Huxtable, 34, from Swansea, have not yet been found.

  6. Want to be involved in preserving Sheffield's war memorials?published at 17:33 British Summer Time 25 April 2016

    People in Sheffield are being asked, external to play a part in conserving and protecting local war memorials as part of a project to commemorate World War One.

    Funding is available for the repair and conservation of memorials, like this one at Wadsley, but help is needed to find them and record their condition first, using a simple survey. 

    People are being asked to attend two workshops in Sheffield on May 5 and May 11 to find out more.

    Police are appealing for help after two men died in a crash in Barnsley. A lorry and a car collided in Crow Edge.

    The driver of the car, a 77-year-old Rotherham man, and a 68-year-old passenger, also from Rotherham, died at the scene. 

    Police want to hear from anyone who can help the investigation into the crash last Thursday morning.

    Sheffield Wednesday Head Coach Carlos Carvalhal says his team have no pressure as they aim to secure a place in the Championship playoffs.

  9. Rotherham abuse gang to appeal against convictionspublished at 17:07 British Summer Time 25 April 2016

    More on the story that four gang members have launched appeals against their convictions for grooming and abusing young girls in Rotherham.

    Arshid Hussain(pictured left) was jailed for 35 years while siblings Basharat (pictured centre) and Bannaras (pictured right) were imprisoned for 25 and 19 years respectively.

    Arshid and Basharat were found guilty of 38 offences, including rape, indecent assault, abduction, false imprisonment and making threats to kill.

    Bannaras pleaded guilty to 10 charges before the trial.

    Qurban Ali was jailed for 10 years after being found guilty of conspiracy to rape.

    Associates Karen  MacGregor and Shelly Davies were found guilty of false imprisonment and conspiracy to procure a woman under 21 to become a common prostitute.

    MacGregor, who was also convicted of two counts of conspiracy to rape, was jailed for 13 years, while Davies was handed an 18 month suspended term.

    Arshid & Basharat Hussain, Qurban Ali & Karen MacGregor have applied to appeal convictions. All three brothers & Ali to appeal to reduce sentences.

    Four members of a gang who groomed and abused girls in Rotherham have launched appeals against their convictions.

    Brothers Arshid Hussain, 40, Basharat, 39, and Bannaras, 36, along with their uncle, Qurban Ali, 53, and Karen MacGregor, 59, were jailed in February.

    Arshid, Basharat, Ali and MacGregor have submitted applications for permission to appeal their convictions, the Judicial Office has confirmed.

    All three brothers and Ali are also appealing to reduce their sentences.

    Jurors have reached a majority decision on whether the 96 victims of the Hillsborough disaster were unlawfully killed.  

    Their conclusions will be formally returned tomorrow morning.
