  4. More than 100 balloons released in Doncaster to remember loved onespublished at 17:44 British Summer Time 10 June 2016

    More than 100 balloons have been released into the skies above Doncaster to remember loved ones who have recently passed away.

    The gathering took place outside Doncaster St John's Hospice at Balby where around 75 relatives and friends collected to remember their loved ones and celebrate their lives.

    The event also raised £325 through donations for the hospice appeal.

    One of Madonna's dancers came into BBC Radio Sheffield today to talk about a new documentary called 'Strike A Pose' which is on as part of Sheffield Doc Fest tonight.

    As well as having a chat on the radio Kevin Stea, who was assistant choreographer and dance captain for the Madonna Blond Ambition Tour, taught us all how to vogue.....

  6. Travel: One lane blocked on A61 due to floodingpublished at 17:27 British Summer Time 10 June 2016

    There is slow traffic and one lane blocked on the A61 Penistone Road in Sheffield between the B6074 Hillfoot Road junction and Shalesmoor Roundabout.

    It's because of flooding. 

    There's congestion to the A6101 Owlerton Green junction.

  7. New campaign helps avoid sticky end for Barnsley's hedgehogspublished at 17:26 British Summer Time 10 June 2016

    Barnsley council is labelling all its garden strimmers with a warning message to try and reduce the number of hedgehogs maimed or killed by strimmers every year.

    The authority is one of the first in the country to address the issue by labelling all the strimmers , externalused by their groundwork teams.

    Janet Mason, from Hogwarts Hedgehog Hospital in Barnsley, said: "Barnsley council is fantastic with regards to wildlife; they have introduced many areas for wildlife release and preservation.

    "Their commitment with labelling strimmers is just another way of helping care for the wildlife within the borough."

  8. Did you witness Sheffield sexual assault?published at 17:14 British Summer Time 10 June 2016

    Detectives would like to hear from you if you witnessed the reported sexual assault , externalof a student in Sheffield in the early hours of yesterday morning.

    Officers were called to a property in Westbourne Road where a 19-year-old woman reported being sexually assaulted by a man outside.

    The man is understood to have approached her from behind before sexually assaulting her and running from the scene.

    He is described as white, aged between 18 to early 20s and about 5ft 8ins-5ft 10ins. He is believed to have been wearing a black hooded top with the hood up and dark trousers.

  12. 150mph police chase: Judge says driving was 'truly appalling'published at 16:04 British Summer Time 10 June 2016

    Jailing Thomas Birkbeck, of Dinnington, at York Crown Court Judge Deborah Sherwin said his driving had been "truly appalling". 

    She said anyone who had seen that footage would have been horrified if they knew how limited the sentence was she could pass on him.

    It was, in fact, just 16 months, but with other events attached to it he was jailed for a total of 32 months.will do in  a bit

  13. 150mph driver jailed: Police officer describes shock at finding girl in carpublished at 15:48 British Summer Time 10 June 2016

    The police officer who finally stopped a car which had been speeding at up to 150mph during a chase last month has described his shock after finding a young girl in the vehicle.

    Traffic Sgt Julian Pearson told BBC Look North: "I then looked into the back and saw a hysterical three-year-old.

    "It was chilling, upsetting and just the sheer thought that had that vehicle crashed that child would have died and could I have lived with myself knowing that?"

    South Yorkshire firefighters are warning the public to take extra steps to prevent house fires this summer after revealing they have attended 150 accidental blazes during the last three football tournaments in which England have qualified.

    They attended 59 house fires during the last World Cup and 58 during the same month-long tournament in 2010.

    Crews also attended 33 incidents during the three-week Euro 2012 tournament.

    Head of community safety Trevor Bernard said: “Alcohol and cooking just don’t mix. If you just can’t tear your eyes away from the inevitable penalty shoot-out, turn the cooker off and take the pan off the hob.”  

  15. Two arrested for attempted murder after Sheffield break-inpublished at 15:18 British Summer Time 10 June 2016

    Police have arrested two men on suspicion of attempted murder and aggravated burglary, external after a man is believed to have been shot in a break-in in Sheffield. 

    Officers were called to a house in the Shiregreen area of the city at about 02:45 on Monday,following reports that it had been broken into.  

    The occupant, a man in his 60s, had suffered an injury "consistent with a firearms discharge", police said. He currently remains in hospital in a serious and potentially life-threatening condition. The two men arrested, aged 24 and 25, currently remain in police custody. 

  16. DocFest premieres BBC Virtual Reality experimentspublished at 14:38 British Summer Time 10 June 2016

    Documentary makers and film fans from across the globe are arriving in Sheffield for the city's 23rd Doc/Fest.

    Among the events is the premiere of three BBC Virtual reality experiments and the first UK demonstration of holographic technology, which allows people to have a virtual conversation with a hologram - in this case, a Holocaust survivor.

    Mark Atkin, curator of Alternate Realities, said the section had grown in recent years.

    He said: "Two years ago we had two virtual reality projects at Sheffield Doc/Fest. Last year we had nine.

    "This year we have created a Virtual Reality award, making Sheffield Doc/Fest the first film festival to announce such an award."

    In tennis, British qualifier Tara Moore is through to the quarter-finals of the Nottingham Open after beating the American Christina McHale in her second round match. 

    The Hong Kong-born Doncaster resident will face Sai Sai Zheng who knocked out British number one Johanna Konta yesterday. 

    She feels the pressure is off heading into her quarter final....
