Sheffield City Council wants to introduce a 20mph speed limit in Greystones and Whirlow.

It says reducing the speed of traffic in residential areas will reduce the number and severity of accidents.

In a recent consultation leaflets were delivered to more than 4,000 properties and 69 people, including the Head Teacher at Silverdale School and the Cycle Touring Club, registered their support for the20 mph limit.

Twenty five people objected to the principle of introducing the new speed limit in this area but the council says the reasons for making the speed limit order outweigh those objections.

A proposal will now be submitted to the Cabinet to introduce the 20mph speed limit.
