    A 32-year-old motorcyclist has died following a collision on Armthorpe Road in Doncaster.

    It happened at around 22:15 yesterday evening close to Doncaster Royal Infirmary.

    Police say no other vehicles are believed to have been involved in the incident.

    The man's relatives have been informed and are receiving support from specialist officers.

    England defender Kyle Walker admits there are issues to be addressed defensively ahead of Euro 2016.

    England begin their tournament against Russia on Saturday, with the former Sheffield United full back about to embark on his first major international tournament.

    But Walker says the rearguard is not as a bad as has been made out.

    • The NUT have called a public meeting for parents and teachers to discuss changes to the school holidays in Barnsley. The union says the move will 'cause chaos' for parents, especially those who have children at different schools

  5. Sheffield Hospitals rated as goodpublished at 11:47 British Summer Time 9 June 2016

    England's Chief Inspector of Hospitals has found Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to be Good after an inspection by the Care Quality Commission. 

    The trust was rated as Good for being safe, caring, effective, responsive and well led. Overall CQC rated the trust as Good.

    The Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Northern General Hospital, Charles Clifford Dental Hospital and the community services were rated as Good. 

    The Weston Park Hospital was  rated as Requires Improvement overall, although caring was rated as outstanding at the hospital.

  6. Arrest made in connection to Fitzalan Square incidentpublished at 11:35 British Summer Time 9 June 2016

    An 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection to an incident just off Fitzalan Square, external, where a 28-year-old man was found with life-threatening injuries.

    The 18-year-old was arrested on suspicion of assault and has now been bailed pending further enquiries.

    The 28-year-old man remains in hospital in a critical condition.

    He was discovered unconscious and with a serious head injury at the bottom of the stairs that lead off Fitzalan Square and down towards Pond Street, at around 13:20 on Monday, 6 June.

  8. Barnsley MP urges Parliament to mark Somme centenarypublished at 10:52 British Summer Time 9 June 2016

    Former soldier Dan Jarvis has called for Parliament to hold a special debate to commemorate the centenary of the Battle of the Somme next month. 

    The Labour MP for Barnsley Central, a former Army major who served in Afghanistan and Iraq, raised concerns that with just a few weeks to go before the anniversary, the Commons has not arranged a "planned moment" to mark it.

    He said: "It is important that young people engage in commemorations, but it is also important that we here in this House seek to engage with the commemorations as well."

    Acting culture minister David Evennett said: "I totally endorse his comments and I will have a word with the Leader of the House and Mr Speaker, who obviously are the responsible authorities, but I would certainly back that." 

    The Battle of the Somme took place between July 1 1916 and November that year and was one of the bloodiest battles in history.

    Chartered surveyors are predicting a short-term drop in house prices in some areas over the next three months - the first fall in more than six years.

    Members of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics) who work in estate agents said they expected price reductions in the Yorkshire and Humber region, as well as East Anglia, South East England and South West England.

    However, Rics said the fall was likely to be short-lived.

    "Sadly, for the many young people looking to enter the property market, it is unlikely that we are seeing the emergence of a more affordable market," said Rics chief economist Simon Rubinsohn.

    Eleven-year-old Josh Berry from Doncaster is already being tipped for great things in the world of golf.

    The youngster has just been up in Scotland for the US Kids Golf European Championship, external.

    His handicap so far this year is five.

    He was interviewed on BBC Radio Sheffield earlier and before leaving the radio station he gave me a quick tip about the best way to tee off  -so watch closely.

    The sharp-eyed among you will have spotted that, yes, that is a microphone stand and not a golf club.

    We don't tend to have many of those lying around at the station!

    The family of one of the Rotherham men still missing following the Didcot power station collapse in February have been talking to BBC Radio Sheffield.

    The military is being drafted in to help find the bodies of the three men still missing under the rubble. 

    Steve Hall the son-in-law of Ken Cresswell isn't happy about the search operation and says he doesn't feel that he can trust anybody.

  12. Bernie Clifton and ostrich to appear at Kerrang! Awardspublished at 09:23 British Summer Time 9 June 2016

    Ostrich-riding entertainer and BBC Radio Sheffield presenter Bernie Clifton is to appear at the Kerrang! Awards after a blunder saw death metal songs listed on the back of his CD.

    The 80-year-old entertainer said he was "absolutely devastated" when tracks by the band Abhorrent Decimation were mistakenly printed on his album cover.

    But he has since invited the band to his home in Derbyshire, and said they were "absolutely charming".

    He is due to present an award at the annual music awards show later.

  16. 'Huge surge' in number of cats being abandoned, says South Yorkshire charitypublished at 08:14 British Summer Time 9 June 2016

    Meet Mambo and May.

    The nine-week-old kittens were found abandoned in a skip by a member of the public and are now being cared for by South Yorkshire charity Rain Rescue.

    The organisation says it has seen a huge surge in the number of cats being abandoned on the streets and receives numerous calls and emails each day asking them to take in litters of unwanted kittens.

    Lauren Sanderson, the deputy charity manager, says: "Cat owners really must start to do the responsible thing and neuter their cats. 

    "Small rescues like ourselves are simply overloaded and cannot cope with the volume of cats and kittens we are being asked to help."
