  3. Third arrest in Tommy Ward murder investigationpublished at 17:25 British Summer Time 10 August 2016

    A third man is currently in police custody being questioned by detectives following a number of warrants executed today as part of the ongoing investigation into Tommy Ward’s murder.

    The 23-year-old man from Sheffield was arrested on suspicion of murder, in addition to the two arrests this morning; a 30-year-old man from Sheffield and a 35-year-old man from Rotherham, who were also arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody.

    The DBL Sharks Sheffield have confirmed the departure of Antone 'TJ' Robinson by mutual agreement.

    The American had signed a new one year contract last month, but the club now say due to unforeseen circumstances he will not be joining the Sharks and they wish him well in the future.

    A drugs warrant was executed by police in Rossington today. They found cannabis buds drying out in a hidden space underneath a garage.

  6. New parks boss takes root at Sheffield City Councilpublished at 16:38 British Summer Time 10 August 2016

    Lisa Firth is the new head of Sheffield's Parks and Countryside, in charge of around 800 green spaces within the city boundary.

    Sheffield is famous for its parks, being the only major city to have a national park within its boundary, and also having more trees than any other city in Europe – around two million trees, four for every person.

    Candidates hoping to become the new leader of UKIP will lay out their plans in Yorkshire tonight in the wake of the resignation of Nigel Farage.

    Detectives investigating a reported indecent exposure incident have released an e-fit image of a man, external they would like to speak to.

    At about 18:30 on Tuesday 2 August, a nine-year-old girl and her friend were walking along the Wellway, Sunnyside, when a man indecently exposed himself.The man is also said to have made inappropriate comments towards the two girls.

    The A630 Balby Road in Doncaster is blocked in both directions between Mansfield Road and Belmont Avenue because of an accident involving a car and a motorbike. There are long queues of traffic.

    The new plastic five pound note has gone on show in Yorkshire today. It features Sir Winton Churchill and the next generation of security features making it harder to copy.

    The National Railway Museum is displaying the new fiver which is printed on a thin flexible polymer.

  14. Doncaster dad cycles up a storm for rare genetic wasting diseasepublished at 14:15 British Summer Time 10 August 2016

    A dad of two from Doncaster covered more than 500 miles in five days to raise money and awareness of the rare disease that affects his friend’s son, Leonardo.

    Four year old ‘Nardo’ Devlin was diagnosed with the life limiting Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in 2014 – a condition which affects thousands of boys across the UK.  

    Now, Jon Tuffrey, 40, has joined Nardo’s dad, John and has done his bit by taking part in an epic cycle with 13 friends for the charity Harrison’s Fund.

  17. Legal challenge to Sheffield City region Mayor proposalspublished at 13:08 British Summer Time 10 August 2016

    Derbyshire county council is asking for a judicial review of proposals which would put the Mayor of a Sheffield City region in charge of some services in Chesterfield.

    The proposals by the Sheffield City region combined authority - a group made up of Sheffield, Doncaster, Barnsley and Rotherham councils - are currently out for public consultation. 

    They would put responsibility for key services in Chesterfield such as major roads, public transport, skills and major planning and investment projects in the hands of Sheffield city region. Derbyshire county council says that's not in the best interests of people living in Chesterfield.

    Police have carried out search warrants this morning in the Aston, Ulley, and Wales areas of Rotherham and in Hackenthorpe and Stradbroke in Sheffield, in connection to the ongoing investigation into the murder of Tommy Ward.

    Two men have been arrested, aged 35 and 30-years-old, on suspicion of murder and are being questioned by detectives.

    Mr Ward was found with serious injuries on the morning of Thursday, 1 October 2015, at his home on Salisbury Road in Maltby he died in hospital in February 2016.
