    There's a protest at Sheffield Town Hall today over the closure of a dementia centre in the city.

    Hurlfield View in Gleadless Common is set to close after the local NHS Trust pulled out of their contract due to funding issues.

    It's the last specialist respite and day care centre for people with dementia in Sheffield.

  2. Police appeal after boy, 12, grabbed by man in Leedspublished at 11:03 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2017

    A man grabbed a boy by the waist and told him to "come with me" on a bridleway in Leeds yesterday.

    The 12-year-old was walking home from school on a path that runs between Tongue Lane and Woodlea Lane in Meanwood.

    He was approached from by the man who grabbed him around the waist with both hands. 

    The boy turned around and pushed him and the man ran off. 

    The youngster got home safely and gave this description of the suspect: 5ft 10ins to 6ft tall, aged 20 to 30, slim build, wearing a dark knitted jumper with a v-neck and dark brown trousers.

    Today marks what would have been the 100th birthday of Yorkshire flying ace, Ginger Lacey.

    Squadron LeaderJames Harry "Ginger" Lacey (DFM & Bar) was one of the top scoring RAF fighter pilots of World War II. 

    He was the second-highest scoring RAF fighter pilot of the Battle of Britain, credited with 28 enemy aircraft destroyed, five probables and nine damaged.

    Born in Wetherby and educated in Knaresborough, Ginger was initially an apprentice pharmacist before training as a pilot and then becoming a flying instructor, before being called up by the RAF at the outbreak of war.

    He eventually left the RAF in 1967 and formed his own air freight business as well as continuing to teach future pilots. He died in 1989.

    An e-fit picture has been released of a man police want to speak to following a sexual assault in Huddersfield.

    An 18-year-old girl was sexually assaulted on 20 January in the afternoon on Wakefield Road in the town. 

    The suspect was wearing a green coat and light blue jeans.

  6. A 5% rise in council tax bills planned for Rotherhampublished at 10:04 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2017

    There are plans for a 5% rise in council tax bills in Rotherham.

    The council has proposed a 1.99% increase in council tax and a further 3% rise dedicated to adult social care.

    The authority says it needs to save £24m next year, leaving it to find £42m between 2018-2020.

    It means to cuts to a range of services including Jamie Oliver's obesity-tackling Ministry of Food.

    Three children's homes are also set to close and library services will also be affected.

    National Rail say rail lines near Doncaster have re-opened after a man died at a level crossing.

    However there are still warnings of disruption and delays.

    If you happen to have a few thousand pounds burning a hole in your pocket, then a piece of Whitby history could be yours.

    A collection of around 1,000 postcards is up for auction today at Malton's Milton Rooms. 

    They feature photos charting Whitby's past, including the time a submarine was a tourist attraction in the harbour.

    British Transport Police, external say the man's death is not believed to be suspicious.

    A man has died after being hit by a train in Bentley.

    Emergency services were called at 08:24 to Arksey Lane level crossing where the man was found dead at the scene.

    At 07:58 emergency services were also called to Rossington level crossing where they also had a report of someone being struck by a train.

    No one has been found but British Transport Police investigations are continuing at both sites.

    Do you find yourself driving round and round the block looking for somewhere to park your car?

    If so, that's not surprising as we spend on average nearly four days a year looking for car parking spaces according to the British Parking Association. 

    It says Yorkshire's the worst place in the country for drivers getting frustrated about inconsiderate parking.

    MPs will tonight start the process for Britain's departure from the European Union

    They're expected to approve the triggering of Article 50 which will see the start of a two-year negotiation before the UK leaves. 

    But Jeremy Corbyn will face some resignations from the Labour front bench from MPs who plan to oppose the move. 

    Former Minister Maria Eagle is among those who'll defy her leader.

    After almost 12 hours of discussions yesterday, there'll be further debate in the House of Commons before the vote.

    Over 100 people attended an event organised by the energy firm Ineos in North Derbyshire last night. 

    The company wants to carry out exploratory drilling at a site in Marsh Lane, near Eckington. 

    Residents also staged a march to protest against plans for fracking in the area.

    There's a major problem with train services going through South Yorkshire after an incident south of Doncaster.

    It's likely services on the East Coast mainline to York and Leeds will be affected by delays.

    A 15-year-old girl's gone missing from York. 

    Faye Kathleen Simpson (pictured) was last seen leaving her home in Heworth at around 17:00 on Saturday evening.

    It's thought she was planning to head in to York City Centre. 

    Police are appealing for her - or anyone who knows where she is - to contact them.

    Yorkshire Ambulance Service has been rated good by inspectors - two years after being told to improve.

    In 2015, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) told the trust that safety and response times needed to be improved. 

    In its latest report, the CQC says it's been impressed by the work that has been done since then.

    Wrapping up the deals after the transfer window closed last night:

    Leeds United completed the loan signing of Villareal winger Alfonso Pedraza as well as that of Swansea City winger Modou Barrow, both until the end of the season .

    Bradford City signed striker Charlie Wyke from Carlisle and full-back Jacob Hanson from Huddersfield Town on two and a half year deals. Both have joined for undisclosed fees. 

    Wyke arrives following a prolific first half of the season for Carlisle, having scored 18 goals. Joining them at Valley Parade is 18-year-old Sheffield Wednesday defender Matthew Penney and 20-year-old Aston Villa centre-back Kevin Toner on loan deals until the end of the season. 

    There's confusion over Jordan Rhodes' proposed £10m move to Sheffield Wednesday from Middlesbrough. It's understood there will be a meeting at the Football League today to decide if all the paperwork was completed in time.

    Elsewhere in football, Scarborough Athletic are through to the fourth round of the Integro Cup after a 2-1 win over Tadcaster Albion at Queensgate Matt Lucid scored a late winner for Scarborough.
