    A 20-year-old man has died after falling ill in a vehicle on the outskirts of York.

    A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said officers were called to the "sudden death" at 4.40pm on Monday.

    Wonder no more -  Allerton Park is the site of a huge incinerator at the heart of a new Waste Recovery Park costing £1.4bn.

    Police are increasing patrols in an area where a man was fatally shot at the weekend.

    South Yorkshire Police says more officers will be in place to reassure the community and gather witness information following the shooting of 23-year-old Assel Al-Essaie at the weekend. 

    He was taken to hospital and died a short time after being shot.

    The widower of the murdered Labour MP, Jo Cox, has announced that a special weekend event will be held this summer, to mark the first anniversary of her killing. 

    The event, called "The Great Get Together" will take place on 17/18 June.

    Brendan Cox wants the event to celebrate his late wife's energy and her desire to bring communities together.

    One of North Yorkshire's biggest landfill sites will close when the county's new waste incinerator opens. 

    A huge amount of waste is currently delivered to Allerton Park Landfill site near Knaresborough. 

    But there are plans to mothball it when the nearby Waste Recovery Park is up and running next year.

    One of South Yorkshire's MPs is campaigning to get more support for children whose parents are alcoholics.

    Labour MP for Don Valley, Caroline Flint is part of a cross-party group of politicians working on the issue. 

    Ms Flint has said she grew up with an alcoholic mother and had to leave home at the age of 17 when the situation worsened as she prepared for her A-Levels.

    Nearly two-thirds of local plans to transform NHS services in England involve hospital closures or downgrading A&E facilities. 

    That includes proposed changes at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and Dewsbury Hospital. 

    The ideas are designed to get more patients treated in their local communities. 

    Chris Ham is the Chief Executive of think tank, the King's Fund. He says the proposals offer the best hope for the NHS but believes the aim of cutting beds isn't credible:

    Two teenage boys from Barrow have been given five-year football banning orders after pleading guilty to throwing rocks at a minibus carrying women and children.

    The boys, aged 15 and 16, cannot be named because of their age.    

    Witnesses said a group of youths hurled rocks at the minibus as it travelled along the A590 Walney Road after the National League match on Saturday 24 September 2016 at Barrow's Holker Street ground.  

    The attack led to two York supporters being taken to hospital with head injuries.

    A musical based on North Yorkshire's Calendar Girls has an official opening in London's West End tonight.

    It's called "The Girls", with music written by Gary Barlow and is based on the story of the middle-aged women from the Rylstone WI who stripped off for a charity calendar. 

    York actor Josh Benson plays Tommo and is hoping the stage version matches the success of the 2003 film.

    Keighley's Olympic boxer Muhammad Ali (pictured below) has been named in the British Lionhearts team, external for the second fixture of the season in the World Series of Boxing.

    The Lionhearts face France Fighting Roosters in Paris on Thursday. 

    The team is made-up of members of the GB Boxing squad and a number of International selections, overseen by Performance Director, Rob McCracken who also runs the GB Boxing Olympic programme.

    Muhammad is hoping he can help secure the Lionhearts' first win of the new campaign after they started the season with a narrow 3-2 defeat away to Italia Thunder.

    The planned HS2 rail line will destroy inheritances for West Yorkshire's future generations, it's being claimed.
