One minute there was nothing, the next, "white hell".

Well not quite...

The snow started to fall in Bradford just after 09:00 on Thursday.

Car parks turned slushy but main roads remain clear.

Up at Odsal Top, there’s a light dusting on pavements and side roads.

More like sleet, the white stuff keeps coming down and it is cold out.

Traffic is steady, but it feels like many have voted with their feet and stayed wrapped up warm at home.

Several schools in Sheffield are to close at around lunchtime due to the weather.

The city council has confirmed that:

• Birley Academy will see a staggered closure from midday
• UTC Sheffield City Centre and UTC OLP will close at 12:30
• St Joseph's Primary School in Handsworth will close at 13:00
• Rowan School will also close to pupils at 13:00
• Shooters Grove Primary school is due to close at 13:30

With the snow falling in South Yorkshire, it looks like it's time for the gritters to get to work to keep the roads as passable as possible:

It's difficult to see if it's snowing there currently because the windows are all iced up.

But we're guessing it must be pretty cold there anyway...

As well as Bradford, there have been other school closures confirmed across West Yorkshire.

In Wakefield, those affected are, external:

• Normanton Newlands Primary School (partial closure)
• Upton Primary School
• Highfield School

Meanwhile in Calderdale:

• Savile Park Primary School, Halifax
• All Saints Primary School, Halifax
• Ravenscliffe High School and Sports College, Halifax
• Holy Trinity Primary School, Halifax
• Calderdale College

And in Kirklees, there are four closures, external:

• Woodley School and College
• King James's School Southgate School

• Castle Hill School

Sheffield seems to be getting its fair share of snow at the moment.

• Park Aspire

With a Met Office Amber weather warning for the south and west Pennines in place until 18:00 today - including areas in West and South Yorkshire - we'll bring you the latest updates.

Snow is already reported to be falling in South and North Yorkshire - and as you can see from the picture above - there's already a covering of the white stuff in Carleoates, Barnsley.
