  4. North Staffordshire community groups boosted by Lottery cashpublished at 13:52

    Seven community groups in north Staffordshire are getting more than £750,000 of Lottery funding.

    The shared money is going to projects to help the long-term unemployed back into work and for offering help to unpaid carers.

    Among those to benefit is Blythe Bridge Cricket Club (pictured), whose members successfully applied for a benefit grant of £17,000 for a new pavilion.

  11. Night vision goggles to light the way in Stafford's dog fouling fightpublished at 11:33

    In a "fight to reduce dog fouling", Stafford Borough Council says it'll use night vision goggles to find irresponsible owners not cleaning up after their pets, external.

    The council says it's taking the action during the winter months as it's more difficult to catch dog owners on fields and football pitches 

    The "monocular" goggles being used by council workers have a built-in laser infrared illuminator which improves viewing in the dark.

  12. Council to discuss funding for vulnerable childrenpublished at 11:14

    There's been a big increase in the number of boys at risk of being sexually exploited in Stoke on Trent. 

    The number of 11-to-18-year-old boys referred to the council's Child Sexual Explotiation Support Service went up by 150% percent last year, compared with the year before.

    Overall there were 146 new referrals last year - a 12% increase on the year before. 

    The city council says it needs to spend £55,000 more a year to keep up with demand.

    The borough council says dog fouling is a particular problem during the dark mornings and early evenings.

    Three teenagers have been charged with firearms offences after an incident in Hanley and are due to appear before magistrates next month.

    Armed officers arrested three males, who can't be named for legal reasons, in August after they were spotted acting suspiciously on Stafford Street (pictured).

    Port Vale will play Exeter away in the FA Cup second round - if they win next week's replay at Maidenhead. 

    Vale drew 1-1 with Maidenhead in the original fixture at Vale Park on Sunday afternoon. 

    Exeter are currently 14th in League Two - four points off the play-off places. Meanwhile Vale midfielder Michael O'Connor thinks they've had a mixed season so far, winning just five of their first 16 league fixtures.

  18. Speed limits outside east Cheshire schools to be consideredpublished at 10:00

    Parents and pupils across east Cheshire could see changes to the speed limit outside their school following a council meeting today. 

    Cheshire East will decide on plans to put advisory 20 mph speed limits outside all 160 local schools over the next three years.

    They may only apply at certain times of the day and there wouldn't need to be a formal consultation or legal approval because the limit isn't mandatory.

    One parent at Sound and District Primary School (pictured) said he wanted to see a speed limit reduction on the road outside, saying "it's one of the most dangerous roads in Cheshire".
