    Two men have been charged after what police are calling an incident involving a firearm, external in Stoke-on-Trent.

    Staffordshire Police says it happened in Birches Head in November - officers say the pair were both arrested on Saturday and charged with affray. 

    The force says they are due to appear before magistrates next month.

    This lunchtime on Midlands Today, we're looking at a new scheme on the M6, where motorists are allowed to use the hard shoulder throughout the day.

    It has been described as "an accident waiting to happen".

    Other similar projects in this region have involved opening the emergency lane at peak-times only, when traffic speeds are reduced.

  10. Thousands of objects getting a spring clean at Weston Parkpublished at 12:42 Greenwich Mean Time 16 February 2016

    Conservators have started the task of cleaning more than 30,000 objects at Weston Park, ranging from Van Dyck portraits to stuffed parrots (deceased ones).

    They've asked experts from the Hamilton Kerr institute, external in Cambridge to work on some special items.

    A new scheme on the M6 in Staffordshire where motorists are allowed to use the hard shoulder throughout the day has been branded as dangerous by the AA, external

    Traffic police have also expressed their concerns about the "smart motorway" scheme between junctions 10a and 13, external.

    Previously, the opening of the hard shoulder tended to occur at peak times and when traffic speeds were reduced. 

    Highways England has said before that "smart motorway" schemes will make roads safer, cut congestion, and improve journey times.
