    Stoke-on-Trent's Hackney Carriage Association says plans from the city council to suspend drivers who get, external six penalty points are too harsh.

    Under the authority's new proposals, taxi drivers would be forced off the road until they've taken a driving standards test. 

    The proposals are part of a consultation on Stoke-on-Trent City Council's new licensing agreement.

    A concert is to be staged in memory of the Cheshire band Viola Beach and their manager who died in a car crash in Sweden.

    Kris Leonard, River Reeves, and Jack Dakin - all aged 20 - Tomas Lowe, 27, and their manager Craig Tarry, 33, died outside Stockholm on 13 February.

    The memorial concert, which will feature friends and bands they have played with, will be hosted in their home town of Warrington by BBC Radio 1 DJ Phil Taggart.

    Tickets are on sale for the show, at Parr Hall on 2 April.

    A Staffordshire toddler whose mother and stepfather are accused of murder and child cruelty, had only eaten a packet of crisps, a chocolate biscuit and a yoghurt the day she died, a court heard.

    Ayeeshia Jane Smith died at the family home in Staffordshire in May 2014 after a laceration to her heart believed to have been caused by a forceful foot stamp to her chest, according to prosecutors. 

    Kathryn Smith, 23, and her partner Matthew Rigby, 22, both from Derbyshire, are jointly accused of murdering the 21-month-old child, and separately of causing or allowing Ayeeshia's death. They deny all charges. 

    A Birmingham Crown Court jury heard how Smith told police her 21-month-old daughter had "snacked on a yoghurt, a chocolate biscuit, and Quavers" by the afternoon of May 1. 

    The trial continues.

    A Staffordshire teacher has been struck off after admitting sending messages of a sexual nature to a former pupil.

    Richard Day, 32, was working at Erasmus Darwin Academy in Burntwood, Staffordshire, when he befriended on Facebook a student he taught at his previous school, Nunnery Wood High School in Worcester.

    In the messages he discussed the pupil's sexuality and criticised his former students. He was fired by Erasmus Darwin in 2014.

    Day - who is banned from teaching for life and cannot appeal against the decision for five years - had been employed at Nunnery Wood until the summer of 2012.
