    Taylor, 55, eased past fellow Stoke-on-Trent thrower Lewis in Exeter to earn his fourth successive victory.  

  2. Rivers and brooks polluted after Stafford warehouse blazepublished at 10:58 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2016

    Two rivers and several watercourses were polluted after the huge warehouse blaze in Stafford this week, the Environment Agency says. 

    The blaze on Wednesday, captured above by the Express and Star newspaper, external, involved up to 40,000 litres of oil at Global Hygiene, an industrial cleaning supply firm, on Astonfields Industrial Estate.

    It took around five hours to get under control.

    The Environment Agency, external says its staff are still in the area, working to remove the oil from the local brooks and the Rivers Sow and Trent.

    The yellow weather warning of snow and ice from the Met Office is to last until 15:00 this afternoon, external.

    It says more sleet and snow is expected today - at low levels any settling snow will mostly occur this morning, "when one to three cm (0.39 - 1.18 inches)  is possible in places".

    The Met Office says they expect more over higher ground.

    - Drivers are being warned that icy conditions which have affected parts of Staffordshire this morning, external could continue into the afternoon

    - People living in east Cheshire will get to have their say from today on plans to build 36,000 new homes across the area, external over the next 14 years

    - A man's been hit by a lorry on the A49 in south Cheshire

  6. Travel: Emergency repairs close lane in A38 in Barton-under-Needwoodpublished at 10:15 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2016

    A lane is closed on the A38 northbound in Barton-under-Needwood between Alrewas and Barton-under-Needwood, because of emergency repairs.

    Travel time is around 50 minutes and congestion is back to the Fradley Arms.

    With over an inch of snow recorded overnight in Leek and almost three in Flash, Staffordshire County Council , externalsay they have used snow ploughs on some higher routes.

    They're also continuing to grit main roads across the county as expect the icy conditions to continue.

    I've been up in the Staffordshire Moorlands this morning.

    So far there's no real snow disruption on roads in areas like Leek but there is a covering in high spots.

    The A49 is shut in both directions in Tarporley because of an accident involving a lorry and a pedestrian.

    It's closed between the A51 Rode Street junction in Tarporley and the A54 junction in Cotebrook.

    - Roads in parts of Staffordshire have been shut because of snow this morning and some areas have seen several centimetres fall already

    Roads in parts of Staffordshire have been shut because of snow this morning and some areas have seen several centimetres fall already.

    The county council, external says it has had vehicles with snow ploughs out in the north of the county and its gritters have treated all main routes and B roads in the area. 

    Overnight snowfall of just over an inch (2.5cm) was recorded in Leek and the council says Flash has seen 7.5cm (2.9inches).

    The snow's already affecting routes in the Peak District this morning - the Cat and Fiddle Road is shut between the Bull-Hill-Lane junction in Macclesfield and the A54 in Buxton.

    And the A53 in Flash is shut both ways near the Flash Bar junction, also because of the snow.
