    A man has been taken to hospital after a car and cyclist crashed in Trentham yesterday evening. 

    It happened on the A34 roundabout for Trentham Gardens at 06:00. 

    The cyclist, in his 50s, was taken to the Royal Stoke hospital.

  2. New taxi service opens for business in Stoke-on-Trentpublished at 12:27 British Summer Time 3 August 2016

    A taxi service which you book and pay for via smartphone says it's now got more than 2,500 customers in Stoke-on-Trent, since launching in the city just over two weeks ago. 

    Uber, external says it has more than 50 self employed drivers signed up to offer the service.

    The firm is already operating in around 20 towns and cities across the country.

    A Staffordshire University , externalstudent, who underwent life-saving surgery, while studying, has graduated with a first class degree. Emily White, 21, from West Bromwich, was going into her final year of the BSc (Hons) Film Production Technology course when she was admitted to Royal Stoke University Hospital with a pancreatic cyst.

    Emily spent five weeks in hospital undergoing two major operations to remove the cyst, which turned out to be a cancerous tumour. Intent on graduating alongside her course mates, she continued with her studies in hospital.Emily returned to University in January and has recently graduated with a first class honours degree.

    Adam Peaty has headed to the Olympic Games in Rio as one of Team GB's favourites for gold - but he wouldn't have got there without the support of his parents, according to his coach.

    BBC News has been speaking to the parents of many of the team's young athletes and, in Adam's case, his mum Caroline has sacrificed holidays abroad and conquered a fear of driving to help her son to the top.

    "It was really hard going, I'd have given up many a time," Caroline, from Uttoxeter, in Staffordshire, told the Radio Times.  

    "I've always hated driving. My husband doesn't drive, and I was so tired all the time. But Adam's willpower was stronger than mine and he'd say, 'Come on Mum, no staying in bed.'"

  7. Man charged after car seen heading wrong way on M6published at 11:03 British Summer Time 3 August 2016

    A man is due in court this morning after being arrested for driving the wrong way on the M6.

    Police also charged the driver with drugs offences following a car chase near Stafford that saw him head north on the hard shoulder of the southbound carriageway. 

    He was arrested near junction 14. 

    The 27-year-old from London was charged with one count of possession with intent to supply a class B drug and one count of driving a motor vehicle dangerously. 

    An investigation into a passenger who fled the scene is ongoing.

    A teenager in Fenton has been taken to hospital after a car and motorcycle collided overnight.

    West Midlands Ambulance Service told BBC Radio Stoke the incident happened at around 01:00 on King Street, Stoke-on-Trent. 

    It says he was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital with a leg injury.

    Stoke City chairman Peter Coates says the extra money they're getting from the new TV deal, isn't just to spend on new transfers.

    The family of a 12-year-old Staffordshire boy who has cerebral palsy say a specialist doctor has confirmed that he'll need further physiotherapy after undergoing surgery two years ago. 

    Ben Baddeley from Silverdale isn't receiving his rehabilitation treatment on the NHS.

    His operation was funded privately after his publicly funded treatment was cancelled.

    Now a doctor at the Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham has said his treatment is working, but there is room for improvement.

    On Midlands Today this evening I'll be looking at why a small charity in Staffordshire has launched a "holiday hunger" campaign to help struggling families. 

    They say those who usually get free school meals are at risk of going without, and some parents are too embarrassed to take their children along to a food bank.

    I'll have more on the situation in Stoke-on-Trent and other groups offering to fill the gap on BBC One from 18:30.

    Sidwell was released by the Potters this summer and has returned to Brighton, where he finished last season on loan.

    Meanwhile former teenage Crewe superstar Nick Powell has been given a three-year contract by Wigan, after failing to make an impact at Manchester United.

    And Burton fans will be hoping winger Lloyd Dyer has a similar impact at the Brewers as he had at Leicester - where he won the League One and the Championship titles.
