    A man has been arrested in Stafford, external as part of a police operation targeting suspected criminals who travel to the area to sell drugs.

    Staffordshire Police say the 27-year-old, from Birmingham, was stopped on Radford Bank yesterday evening.

    He was detained on suspicion of drug driving and later charged for failing to provide a blood sample. 

    The man's been bailed and is due before magistrates in September.

    Goalkeeper Jak Alnwick says there is no chance of any cliques developing in the Port Vale dressing room as the club seeks to incorporate into the squad the 10 foreign signings made this summer.

    Of the 13 new arrivals, three have come from Portugal, three from France, two from the Netherlands and one each from Curacao and Sweden.

    Alnwick told BBC Radio Stoke there is no division in the camp.

    A Staffordshire Moorlands bowling club now has a new home after seven years without one. Biddulph Bowling Club has a new pavilion and green next to St Lawrence's Church on the edge of the town. The green is artificial which means members can play all year round - it just needs vacuuming around twice a week. Graham Swift, Roy Allen and Graham Court (featured in video) gave BBC Radio Stoke a tour of their new site.

    A multi-million pound contract to collect bins in Stafford , externalis being opened up for bids. 

    The borough council say their current deal with Biffa to handle household and garden waste, as well as electrical goods, runs out in 2018.

    The successful bidder is expected to be decided next year.

    Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service say, at its height, more than 50 firefighters from two counties were at the former Twyfords factory site off Lawton Road.

    They say they found a fire on a lifting platform had spread to the roof of an industrial building - one crew stayed on site overnight to monitor the situation.

    A Nantwich jewellers has been robbed by four people in balaclavas , externalwho forced a hole in the window and took watches. 

    Cheshire Police say it happened just after 11:00 today at Moody C H & Son Ltd on Pillory Street - they add that a short time later a car was found on fire in Brine Road in the town.

    Officers say a van was then followed onto the M6 and four men fled the vehicle on the Staffordshire stretch of the motorway. 

    They've been arrested on suspicion of robbery.

    An "almighty bang" is how the manager of a shop in Stoke-on-Trent has described the moment a car smashed into the front of the store. The crash happened yesterday afternoon at Fenton Bed Warehouse on City Road in Fenton. Staffordshire Police say they found a Ford Focus, a VW Passat and a VW Transporter had been involved in the collision. West Midlands Ambulance Service say one woman, who was in the car that hit the window, was treated for a shoulder injury and then taken to hospital.

    Three wild birds have been shot and fatally injured in Newcastle-under-Lyme in the past month, according to the RSPCA, external

    The charity says the trio - a magpie, blackbird and pigeon - were found in gardens on Dimsdale View East, with the latest discovery made on 15 July.

    The RSPCA says gunshots were heard by a member of the public shortly before the bodies were found and the wounds suggest the birds were shot. 

    It says it is investigating, adding that it's illegal to take, injure or kill wild birds unless under licence.

    League One Port Vale have continued their extensive summer rebuilding with the signing of midfielder Nathan Ferguson, the 13th new arrival at the club this summer.

    The 20-year-old has agreed a one-year deal, with an option for a further 12 months at Vale Park, after leaving Championship side Burton Albion.

    Ferguson joined Burton from non-league Grays Athletic in December 2015.

    New Vale boss, Bruno Ribeiro, is also keen to add former Nottingham Forest and Doncaster striker Nathan Tyson to his squad ahead of the new season.

    The draw for the group stages of the EFL Trophy, external has been made this morning. 

    Sixteen Category One academies were invited to play against League One and League Two clubs as part of a one-season, 64-team competition trial.

    Stoke City are one of the Under-21 teams participating and have been paired with Bradford, Morecambe and Bury. 

    Elsewhere, Port Vale's group consists of Derby, Doncaster and Mansfield, while Crewe Alexandra will face Wolverhampton Wanderers, Chesterfield and Accrington Stanley.

    The top two from each group of four teams will qualify for the first knockout round of 32 teams.

    The number of children in care in Stoke-on-Trent has stayed almost the same in the last quarter, according to council figures, after months of increases and budget overspends. 

    At the end of June, 656 children were in the care of the city council, external, up by just one compared with the end of March.

    It follows an increase of 22 children in the three months before that and a total budget overspend in children's social care in the last financial year of £7.7m. 

    Stoke-on-Trent's councillor in charge of children's services, Jan Bridges, has told me that overspend is going down.
