    About 30 people were reportedly involved in what police are calling a "large disturbance" in Stoke-on-Trent with a number of reported assaults., external

    Staffordshire Police say it happened on Friday night on Blythe Bridge Recreational Ground and then spread on to Uttoxeter Road in Blythe Bridge. 

    The force says a vehicle was also damaged during the incident.

    Great Britain's first gold medal at the Rio Olympics came in the swimming pool from a man who used to be afraid of water.  

    Staffordshire's Adam Peaty broke his own world record in the 100m breast stroke final to become the first British man to win an Olympic swimming gold since 1988.

    But the boy from Uttoxeter was once so afraid of water his mum Caroline struggled to bath him.  

    His grandmother Mavis Williams, who "made a fool of herself screaming and shouting" as she watched his performance in the final, said Peaty's years of training had paid off.

    A nine-year-old Wolverhampton boy has completed a 90-mile walk from Manchester through Staffordshire to his home city. 

    Alfie Baugh, who began his journey on Monday, arrived at the Diabetes Unit at New Cross Hospital over the weekend. 

    He's raised thousands of pounds for charity, after being inspired by his father, Dave, who has type one diabetes.

    People who cause violence, disorder or criminal activity at this year's V Festival in Staffordshire will be thrown out of the event, external and face prosecution, police say. 

    The festival at Weston Park runs from 20 to 21 August.

    Staffordshire Police say they've been working months on their plan for the event and will use cameras to scan car registrations to find anyone involved in criminal activity. 

    The force say there'll also be numerous CCTV cameras and a mix of uniformed and plain-clothed officers patrolling the site.

    Stoke-on-Trent City Council will have to save another £51m by 2020 in order to guarantee how much funding, external it will get from the government.

    Councillors will discuss the authority's plan to make the savings tomorrow - they include cuts to admin and staff costs and extra income from new homes. 

    Government funding for councils will be stopped in 2020 when they'll have to generate all of their own income.

    A former swimming teacher of Adam Peaty says there was "something very special about him" when he swam breaststroke as a youngster.

    Sheila Hughes taught Peaty to swim when he was a youngster at the town's leisure centre and told me she was "very proud" to watch him win last night.

    Fines totalling more than £120,000 have been given to parents in north Staffordshire and east Cheshire in the past year for taking their children out of school for term-time holidays. 

    The figures have come from a Freedom of Information request by BBC Radio Stoke. In 2015-16, 277 parents were taken to court by the three councils covering the area.

    The Department for Education says it's tightened the rules because children shouldn't be taken out of classes without good reason.

    Both Cheshire East Council and Staffordshire County Council have seen a rise between 2013 and 2016 in the number of fixed term penalties handed out - Stoke-on-Trent City Council's figures have fallen.
