    The government has again dismissed plans for almost 200 houses to be built , externaljust outside a Cheshire town.

    It's the second time Muller Property Group's proposals to develop land in Stapeley off Audlem Road/Broad Lane near Nantwich have been thrown out.

    It comes almost four years after the plans were first submitted - with the initial refusal reversed in court last year. 

    In the latest conclusion, the secretary of state said he disagreed with a planning inspector's recommendation to allow the appeals - and instead has dismissed them.

    Masked men have stolen a safe from a vets in a Staffordshire village. , external

    The trio, who were also wearing gloves, climbed on the roof of the surgery in Great Wyrley in the early hours of this morning.

    Staffordshire Police says they disabled the alarm, broke in and took the large safe, which contained a "large amount of cash", and hundred of painkiller tablets.

    Inmates at a Staffordshire prison have assaulted staff and started "multiple" fires in a week-long outbreak of disorder.

    A major incident was declared at Featherstone Prison on Thursday, the Prison Office Association (POA) said.

    Riot staff were drafted in to deal with the trouble, which also included a hostage situation.

    The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) said any prisoners involved could face disciplinary action.

    The city council says the Queen of Hearts pub on Lillydale Road, Bucknall has reportedly become a hub for anti-social behaviour.

    It says it has now secured the right to demolish the building and the owner of the land is selling the site for development.

    The trust that runs the Royal Stoke University Hospital and Stafford's County Hospital says not having enough beds available is why its A&E waiting times are so poor, external.

    New NHS England figures show that the two sites are among the worst in the country for emergency department waiting times. 

    The University Hospitals of North Midlands Trust says a lot of people who are in their beds don't need to be there - but they can't be sent home safely and improvements are needed in the social care system.
