    Stone's Olympic champion Joe Clarke says he'll share his success with the whole county.

    On Wednesday, the canoeist took the gold medal in the kayak K1 at the Rio Olympics.

    Stafford Borough Council's already said it is going to give him the Freedom of the Borough.

    A girl's been taken to hospital after being stung by dozens of wasps , externalin the Staffordshire Moorlands.

    West Midlands Ambulance Service say the youngster slipped on leaves in woods near Upper Cotton yesterday and disturbed their nest.

    Paramedics have praised the girl for being "extremely brave" despite suffering between 30 and 40 stings.

    The service say she hadn't suffered an allergic reaction but was taken to hospital for observation.

    Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has said they must bide their time as they try to sign West Brom's Saido Berahino.

    The Potters had a £20m bid for the 23-year-old rejected last month but remain interested in the former England Under-21 striker.

    Hughes said: "It is no secret that we have made bids and have an interest in Berahino, but it is not in our hands.

    "We just have to be patient and if the situation changes then we will be ready to sit down and talk."

    There's been a lot of talk of postboxes being painted gold after the Olympic success of our athletes at Rio 2016.

    Following London 2012, 110 were repainted to celebrate Britain's Olympic and Paralympic champions then.

    However in Stone, after the kayak win on Wednesday by Joe Clarke, his club, Stafford and Stone Canoe Club, haven't hung around - they've painted their own postbox gold.

  12. Staffordshire A&E waiting times among 10 worst in countrypublished at 08:55 British Summer Time 12 August 2016

    One in five A&E patients at the Royal Stoke University Hospital and Stafford's County Hospital waited more than four hours to be seen during June, external, NHS England has revealed. 

    Hospitals are meant to see 95% of patients in four hours, but the data shows it was 79.9% for the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust, external, which runs both sites.

    The figures place the trust among the 10 worst performing in England. 

    They also show 15 patients admitted as an emergency in June waited more than 12 hours to be found a bed - the second highest in England. 

    The trust says the Royal Stoke A&E is exceptionally busy, but safe, and urges patients to consider other NHS services first.
