A national group representing nurseries says the government has to listen to "people on the front line" as providers are warning high demand for a new free 30-hour childcare scheme will mean many will "go bust".
The project, which allows parents to claim free childcare for three and four-year-olds, has been running since September in eight parts of England, including Staffordshire.
In the county, more than 80% of eligible households have taken up the offer.
But nurseries say the scheme along with rising staff costs and inflation will force many providers to close.
The National Day Nurseries Association says ministers have to listen to providers; the government says it is investing a "record £6bn in childcare".
Quote MessageIt's great that so many parents want to take advantage of this scheme but the government has got to listen to people on the front line."
