    A man's been arrested after reports someone with an "offensive weapon" was seen near a primary school in Stoke-on-Trent.

    The man was arrested at Stafford Services on the M6 after leaving the scene near Packmoor County Primary School just before 09:00. Police haven't said what the weapon was.

    No-one was injured and officers say it's a domestic-related incident.

    A bridge over the motorway near Stafford needed urgent repairs, according to Highways England, and both northbound and southbound carriageways were closed between junctions 14 and 15.

    Plans have been submitted for 500 apartments just off the A34 in Newcastle-under-Lyme. 

    The company behind the plans says they could be used by students.

    Abode residencies wants to build five residential blocks on the site of the former Bristol Street Motors garage in London Road. 

    The company is aiming them at students but says they could also be used by key workers such as staff from the nearby Royal Stoke University Hospital.

    A man has been taken to hospital after a collision between a pick-up truck and a lorry on the A500 in Barthomley. 

    The crash happened at about 6am between the M6 junction 16 and the A5020 Old Park Road. 

    The driver of the pick-up had to be cut free and has been taken to hospital with suspected serious injuries. 

    The road has just reopened.

    The A500 is closed both ways at Barthomley, between the M6 at junction 16 and the A5020 Old Park Road, following a crash involving two vehicles. 

    Cheshire Police says the collision happened at about 06:00 and emergency services are at the scene.

  9. People fined for litteringpublished at 08:40 British Summer Time 28 March 2017

    Nine people have been prosecuted for littering by Cheshire East Council.

    It follows a crackdown launched by the council in Crewe last year.

    They were fined a total of £3,500.   

    The council has also issued fixed penalty notices; since 1 October 2016, 4,234 have been handed out.

  14. New parking ticket machines needed for new £1 coinpublished at 17:42 British Summer Time 27 March 2017

    New parking ticket machines are being installed in east Cheshire to take the new £1 coin but the council admit there'll be a "very short period" when their current machines won't accept the new coinage. 

    The new style coin was announced in the 2014 budget and has been billed by the Royal Mint as "the most secure coin in the world".

    Cheshire East Council says it's putting in new pay-and-display ticket machines in all its car parks across the next couple of months.

    The authority says they'll take new and old £1 coins and contactless payment but admits there'll be a short time when their current machines don't accept the new coins.

    It's been a personal mission for Kevin Healey from Knutton, Newcastle-under-Lyme, who wasn't diagnosed with the condition until he was 26.

    As a child he says he was labelled as "eccentric" and he struggled through school life. 

    Now, he's highlighting it all in a 20-minute fiilm called, external  Twin Brothers Worlds Apart about the experiences he and his identical twin brother went through when they were growing up.

    You've been having your say on the news that 12 pupils have been excluded from a school after the head teacher said they refused to do as they were told by staff. 

    Birches Head Academy say pupils started to take sides after an incident involving two children had already been dealt with.

    On the BBC Radio Stoke Facebook page, Tracey Chaplain-Payne wrote, external : " I firmly believe that discipline and respect should start at home from day one unfortunately we live in a society where this does not always happen." 

    While Karen Jones added, external : "As a retired teacher I am not surprised by this. I taught for 32 years in year 5/6 and there were incidents involving violence. Social media has made things a lot worse."

  19. National Memorial Arboretum Remembrance Centre shortlisted for award published at 16:24 British Summer Time 27 March 2017

    The new Remembrance Centre at the National Memorial Arboretum's (NMA) been shortlisted in a regional contest for Building of the Year.

    It's the Royal Institute of British Architects' (RIBA) West Midlands Regional Awards and is up against 11 other sites across the area.

    The RIBA praised the use of natural materials in the new £9.9m centre at the NMA and say the rotunda in the middle, which houses a film experience, is a "powerful visual marker in the site and beyond".
