    Firefighters are tackling a fire at a derelict factory in Stoke-on-Trent.

    Staffordshire Fire Service says three appliances and an aerial platform were called just after 17:00 to Westport Road, Burslem.

    They're telling people nearby to keep their windows closed.

    The county council's been working on the A34 Foregate Street at the junction with Greyfriars Place and Browning Street north of the town centre.

    They say both are finished and all their equipment's been removed ahead of the original deadline of Saturday.

    The midfielder received his second yellow card in as many campaign games as they drew 1-1 against Serbia.

    Stoke's Allen says he went into the game hoping to avoid a booking, but it was hard because of the "type of game" Wales were in.

    Developers behind plans for a new shopping development in the centre of Stoke-on-Trent say it's "damaging" that Next has pulled out.

    The retailer says it has decided to stay at the nearby Intu Potteries rather than become a so-called "anchor tenant" at Unity Walk in Hanley, which is planned for the site of the old bus station. , external

    Developer Realis Estates says it'll find an alternative and will now hope to start building work early next year.

  7. 'Balloon' hedgehog doing well after 'being popped'published at 16:59 British Summer Time 12 June 2017

    A hedgehog "blown up like a beach ball" is now said to be doing well after a vet says she "popped" it with a needle.

    The animal, which had inflated to twice its size, was spotted wandering around in Doncaster and was diagnosed with a severe case of balloon syndrome.

    The male was taken to the RSPCA centre in Stapeley Grange where a needle was inserted to drain out air trapped under its skin.

    Staff say the hedgehog's "not out of the woods yet" but is eating well and they're very hopeful of a recovery.

    A teenager's suffered serious injuries, external after coming off a motorbike in Staffordshire.

    West Midlands Ambulance says they were called at 14:17 yesterday to the junction of Heatley Lane and the B5013 near Abbots Bromley.

    They say the bike's thought to be the only vehicle involved in the incident and the woman was the passenger and suffered arm, suspected pelvis and back injuries.

    She was flown to the Royal Stoke University Hospital while another man, who suffered minor injuries, was taken by ambulance to hospital.

    A fish and chip shop's been fined after Stafford Borough Council says dead flies were found floating in pineapple juice and flies were breeding near a potato-chipping machine., external

    The authority says the owners of Stafford Chippy, Bejal and Pratul Kumar Patel, admitted to magistrates charges of not ensuring food was protected from contamination and failing to control pests in the food storage.

    The inspection happened at the Foregate Street takeaway in October, the council says, and found a "significant infestation of drain flies".

    The council says the couple closed voluntarily, cleaned the site and then reopened, gaining a "satisfactory" rating after their latest inspection.

    In addition, the A51 will be closed on Friday 30 June between the hours of 19:00 and 06:00 at the junction with the A525.
