  2. Disney's 'three musketeer' image was used as terrorists' chat logopublished at 13:18 British Summer Time 2 August 2017

    A convicted terror group used a picture of Disney's three musketeers as their image on a group chat while they discussed their plans to carry out an attack in the UK.

    West Midlands Police say evidence found on phones and other devices belonging to the group showed that the four men shared radical and extremist beliefs and ideologies, and believed in the use of violence to support these beliefs.

    The trial of four men found guilty of preparing a terror attack in the UK heard how a meat cleaver with the word "KAFIR" - Arabic for non-believer or infidel - scratched on to the metal blade was found in a car used by Naweed Ali.

    An incomplete pipe bomb was also recovered. When police searched Tahir Aziz's car they found a Samurai sword by the driver's seat.

    The jury heard that alongside these deadly weapons the defendants had been looking at violent material online, joined extremist social media groups and bought new mobile phones to help them further their plans.

    The court was told that Ali and Khobaib Hussain had a previous conviction for a similar offence, in July 2012 they both pleaded guilty to engaging in conduct in preparation of terrorist acts.

    Their actions had included flying to Pakistan with the intention of undertaking terrorist training in a camp.

    Mohibur Rahman also had a previous conviction after pleading guilty in 2012 to possessing a publication that included information on how to make a pipe bomb.

    Police say a JCB digger used in a botched cash machine burglary in Staffordshire is believed to have been stolen from a farm in Netherseal, external.

    A group of masked raiders tried to use the digger to remove a cash machine from the wall of a Co-op store in Kings Bromley at about 03:10 but fled the scene in cars when they were disturbed by police.

    Structural engineers are now examining the damage to the shop and police have appealed for witnesses.

    After deliberating for 22 hours, jurors convicted Ali, Hussain and Rahman of preparing terrorist acts.

    The fourth defendant, Tahir Aziz, 38, was found guilty of the same offence after the jury deliberated for another 20 minutes.

    As they were led from the dock, one of the convicted men shouted out: "I hope you're happy with your lies. Lying scumbags."

    A third man who was hurt when a crane collapsed in Crewe has died, external, more than a month after the incident happened, police say.

    Two building workers, David Newall, who was 36, from Bradford, and 18-year-old Rhys Barker, from Castleford, West Yorkshire, had already been named as having been killed when the collapse happened on 21 June on Dunwoody Way.

    Today, Cheshire Police said David Webb (pictured), who was 43, and originally from Northampton but living in St Neots, Cambridgeshire, had died from the injuries he suffered.

    His family have described him as a "fun loving character who lived his life to the full".

    Cheshire Police say their investigation, alongside the Health and Safety Executive, the local authority and building control, is still ongoing.

  8. 'Three Musketeers' to be sentenced tomorrowpublished at 12:17 British Summer Time 2 August 2017

    Four men found guilty of preparing a Lee Rigby-style terror attack will be sentenced at the Old Bailey tomorrow.

    Naweed Ali, 29, and Khobaib Hussain, 25, both of Sparkhill, Birmingham, Mohibur Rahman, 33 and Tahir Aziz, 38 both of Stoke-on-Trent were arrested in August last year in an undercover police sting using a fake courier firm.

    They had all denied preparing terrorist acts.

    They were arrested in August last year after MI5 bugged the car of Naweed Ali and uncovered a pipe bomb and meat cleaver hidden in a JD Sports bag.

    Convicted terrorists Naweed Ali and Khobaib Hussain, both of Sparkhill, in Birmingham, and Mohibur Rahman, from Stoke-on-Trent, had claimed the incriminating evidence was planted by an undercover officer known as Vincent, who posed as the boss of a fake firm called Hero Couriers.

    But they were unanimously found guilty after the jury deliberated for 22 hours.

    The jury is still deliberating on the fourth defendant Tahir Aziz, 38, who denies the charge of preparing acts of terrorism.

    Taylor, who beat world number one Van Gerwen 11-5 in the final of the inaugural event in Cardiff in 2016, won a 16th World Matchplay title on Sunday.

    Jodrell Bank's second large radio telescope has been given Grade I listed status for its pioneering role in radio astronomy.

    The 38m (124.6ft) Mark II radio telescope is the smaller of the two large dishes at the observatory site in Cheshire.

    The Lovell telescope, the other dish originally known as Mark I, was given the same status in 1988.

    Historic England said the listing celebrated the observatory's history and its impact on the world.

    Hundreds of planning applications are to be reviewed after a council admitted its air pollution data was "falsified" to make it look cleaner.

    Cheshire East Council said "deliberate and systematic manipulation" took place from 2012 to 2014.

    Cheshire Police is investigating whether any crimes were committed.

    The council has apologised and said the falsified figures had caused "serious problems" in assessing applications for new developments.

    Burton Albion will be without their record signing, Liam Boyce, for most of the season, after he suffered a serious knee injury.

    But the Brewers say, external the Northern Ireland forward will miss "most of the season" with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

    A fire at a house in Stafford, believed to have been started by a lightning strike, has left around half of its roof missing.

    Staffordshire Fire and Rescue said it was called to the property in Coates Heath at 13:31 on Tuesday, after reports the building was set alight by a bolt of lightning. , external

    It said the fire had burned through the roof space of the home, causing some of the structure to collapse.

    Fire crews returned this morning to reinspect the building but haven't yet confirmed the cause of the blaze.
