    Detectives in Cheshire are investigating an attack on a cash machine in Sandbach.

    It happened in the early hours of Tuesday at the Co-op store on the Middlewich Road.

    Cheshire Police say offenders caused "substantial damage" to the cash machine and building, before fleeing in a car.

    Staffordshire's Chief Fire Officer has been given an honorary degree from the University of Wolverhampton.

    At a ceremony on Tuesday Becci Bryant was made an Honorary Doctor of Professional Practice in recognition of her contribution in the fire and rescue service.

    Police in Stoke-on-Trent are appealing for information as they search for a missing man.

    Gerald Frost, 59, went missing from Baddeley Green on Monday and was last seen in Longport yesterday.

    He's described as 5ft 10in tall and was last seen wearing a purple jumper and grey trousers.

    The force says the 24-year-old may have fallen through the roof of a building off the Shelton New Road.

    A local author wants more children in Stoke-on-Trent to understand Potteries dialect.

    His new book Arry from the Potteries and Police Officer Stone is written to pass on Stokie slang to future generations.

    It will feature art by Malcolm Draper, who drew The Yellow Submarine for The Beatles.

    Police in Cheshire are appealing for information after a number of brass plaques were stolen in a "despicable and mindless act".

    Cheshire Police says they were taken from the memorial outside St Boniface's Church, in Bunbury, between Friday afternoon and midday on Saturday.

    The four plaques detail the lives of people who lost their lives in war.

    Muhammad is the most popular boys' name in the West Midlands with Amelia taking the top spot for girls.

    The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has revealed its annual results for England and Wales.

    Oliver remains the top boys’ name for England and Wales with Olivia replacing Amelia as the most popular baby girls name.

    Eleven local authorities across the West Midlands have written a joint letter to the government, to complain that targets for reducing bed blocking are "unrealistic".

    They also question NHS data that suggests delays in getting patients discharged are down to local authorities' failure to provide sufficient adult social care - they say the blame should lie with the hospitals themselves.

    The 11 authorities also complain that the threat from NHS England to withhold funding if they fail to meet the target for reducing delayed discharges would have a "catastrophic impact on local people".

    They have asked for more time to meet the target of a 3.5% reduction and added "the way that NHS England has sought to impose unrealistic targets and threatened the withdrawal of funding" has damaged relationships which could affect future hospital redevelopment plans.

  12. Broken down train causing delayspublished at 12:00 British Summer Time 20 September 2017

    The train,which broke down at Blake Street has now been moved and all lines reopened, the National Rail website reports.

    Trains between Birmingham New Street and Lichfield Trent Valley may still be delayed by up to 15 minutes or cancelled while services return to normal. Disruption is expected to continue until approximately 13:30.

    The fifth person to be named Young Poet Laureate of Staffordshire says she's "delighted to have been appointed".

    Rebecca Lockwood, 17, from Cannock was chosen after impressing judges in Stafford.

    Rebecca will officially take up the role next week.

    The Vale are currently searching for a new manager following the departure of Michael Brown, and sit bottom of League Two.

    The man who rushed to help an injured aircraft pilot after it crashed into a Staffordshire field has told me he didn't consider his own safety.

    Chris Lamb was cycling near Abbots Bromley in August, when a light aircraft nosedived near Blithfield Reservoir.

    He told Liz Ellis and John Acres at Breakfast: "I just thought 'poor chap, he's got to be in peril'. I just ran down. I should have thought about consequences of plane going up in flames."

    A man's been arrested and another's in a critical condition, after a serious assault in Cannock.

    It happened on Danby Drive at 17:30 yesterday. A man was rushed to the Royal Stoke Hospital with a stab wound.

    Staffordshire Police say a 39-year-old man, from the town, has been arrested on suspicion of actual bodily harm.
