    Cheshire Police has launched a formal investigation into air quality data at Cheshire East Council.

    It's after a report found the figures were "deliberately manipulated". The authority summoned councillors to a meeting this morning to discuss the issues.

    A report by Healthwatch Staffordshire has highlighted a severe shortage of neurologists in several parts of the region - particularly in Staffordshire, Shropshire and Walsall.

    It finds that patients with Parkinson's, Motor Neurone Disease and Multiple Sclerosis are failing to receive the right levels of care.

    A candidate in February's Stoke-on-Trent Central by-election has pleaded not guilty to charges of stirring up racial hatred on her personal blog.

    Barbara Fielding Morriss, 78, from Draycott is accused of publishing an article titled 'Abolish Magna Carta, Reinstate The Monarchy' which is allegedly threatening, abusive or insulting.

    She also denied sending offensive material by public communication network during an appearance at North Staffordshire Justice Centre.

    Ms Fielding-Morriss polled 210 votes as an independent candidate in February's Stoke on Trent Central by-election.

    She will face trial at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on 20 October.

    All Cheshire East councillors have been summoned to a meeting this morning to discuss new issues which have been referred to the police.

    No details have been released by the council as yet.

    The authority is already being investigated by officers investigating allegations of misconduct in public office over the way contracts were awarded, but it's not clear whether the issues are linked.

    Almost all Midlands prisons are overcrowded - with some having almost three times as many inmates than they were planned for.

    Figures from the Ministry of Justice, external reveal that Oakwood, Stafford and Dovegate are at full capacity, with Oakwood housing almost 500 more inmates than it was designed to.

    It also found that Rye Hill and Onley in Warwickshire are operating at at almost a 100% capacity.

    People living in Staffordshire aren't getting the care they need because of a severe lack of neurologists across the county, a report concludes.

    The research by Healthwatch Staffordshire says patients with Parkinson's, Motor Neurone Disease and Multiple Sclerosis are getting less than 40% of the care they should receive under Nice guidelines.

    Rob Morrison, chair of Healthwatch Staffordshire, says more resources need to be put into neurology.
