    A Covid-19 testing site has been relocated after problems with heating.

    Community testing, using the lateral flow tests which give results in about 30 minutes, had been ongoing at Burntwood Leisure Centre in Staffordshire.

    But it has been moved to Lichfield City FC on Brownsfield Road until the heating issue has been resolved.

    The southbound M6 has reopened in Cheshire after being shut since Tuesday afternoon due to two crashes.

    A fuel tanker hit a bridge and was torn open, spilling half its 28,000 litres across the motorway.

    The other crash saw a van collide with a lorry carrying vodka and gin which spilt onto the road.

    Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said , externalthe road reopened just before midday on Wednesday.

  5. Coven man's death 'not suspicious'published at 12:03 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2021

    The death of a man in Staffordshire is not being treated as suspicious, police say.

    The 47-year-old was found on Laches Lane in Coven on Sunday morning but was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

    The force said he is yet to be formally identified and a file is being prepared for the coroner.

    CCTV footage has been reviewed and house-to-house enquiries conducted by officers as they work to understand his movements before his death.

    The man is described as wearing a navy blue tracksuit top with a white collar, white cuffs, waistband and zip, grey jogging bottoms, black trainers and black bag.

    Volunteers have been thanked for their efforts in helping to run Covid-19 vaccination sites.

    At the County Showground in Stafford, over half of those on duty at any time can be volunteers, said Together We're Better, the region's sustainability and transformation partnership.

    Vaccination Centre Director, Steve Powell said: “They are pivotal to the success of the operation.

    "They come from all walks of life and a wide range of ages, with some that are retired and others that have been furloughed.

    "They are quite happy to roll up their sleeves to do whatever needs to be done to get as many people possible vaccinated.”

    Highways England is warning that the southbound M6 in Cheshire could be closed through the morning.

    It follows two crashes yesterday afternoon between junction 17 for Sandbach and 16.

    One of the crashes involved a tanker, which hit a bridge and was torn open.

    It was carrying 28,000 litres of fuel. Half of that ended up on the road.

    The other crash involved a van and lorry. The van driver suffered serious injuries.

    Cannabis plants have been found in a Stoke-on-Trent house which was being used as a cannabis factory, police said.

    About 220 plants were spread across four rooms inside the property on Hamilton Road in Normacot, Staffordshire Police said.

    A 23-year-old man, from Stoke-on-Trent, who was arrested on suspicion of production of cannabis was later released under investigation while inquiries continue.

    Five people have been taken to hospital after a house fire in Stoke-on-Trent.

    Emergency services were called to Standersfoot Place, Chell Heath, at 20:25 GMT on Monday.

    Staffordshire Police said a man, woman and three boys were all conveyed to hospital for checks.

    The fire was extinguished by 03:20 said Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, and an investigation is underway.

    A paraplegic patient at University Hospitals of North Midlands has thanked the nurse who has cared for him since his diagnosis by nominating him for an award.

    Brian Sirrell, of Welshpool, Powys, has neurological disorder CIPD, external, which targets the body's nerves and has been cared for by Scott Dobing, for 20 years.

    Mr Sirrell said he spent five hours handwriting the letter to nominate Mr Dobing for the trust's Hero award.

    Mr Dobing said he felt "proud and honoured" to have been given the award.
