    A second teenage girl has been arrested on suspicion of arson, following a fire at a school in Exning on Friday morning.

    The 17-year-old was taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre where she'll be interviewed officers in connection with the blaze at the school in Oxford Street.

    A 33-year-old man found guilty of one assault on his partner has been told by Ipswich Magistrates he will be sentenced to a community penalty.

    He had also already admitted another assault when he threw some keys over his shoulder and they hit her.

    The details of his community sentence will be given to him at Bury St Edmunds magistrates later this month and he was free to walk from court, while the woman told magistrates she had no objections to him visiting her house in Ipswich.

    In both trials at Ipswich magistrates today, neither defendant arrived with their own solicitor.

    When a witness needed to be questioned by the defence, the court had to find a local barrister who could attend court, so that the witness was not questioned directly by the defendant.

    Magistrates in Ipswich have returned their verdicts on a domestic assault trial case.

    A 33-year-old man has been found guilty of one assault when he "brushed" past his partner to try and reach his children to take them with him as he left their house.

    He has been found not guilty of another assault on her and of assaulting her son who got a finger trapped in the kitchen door after it was "flicked" shut by the defendant.

    The bench has retired again to consider its sentence.

    A woman rescued from a second floor flat in last night's devastating fire in Sudbury has spoken of the moments before a surge of flames burst out of the building.

    "I could see that it was getting bad, then I was thinking... anything could happen, it might even collapse and I'd go down into the fire because I could feel the heat coming up through the floor as well," said Christina Deke.

    Yesterday evening's blaze in Market Hill Sudbury has been described as "incredibly challenging" by Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service.

    Chief Fire Officer Mark Hardingham said "Fires of this scale are not a common occurrence but nonetheless the response from the service was excellent. 

    "The task now is to work with our colleagues in Suffolk Police to investigate the incident and if possible find a cause.”

    The bench is about to return in the trial of a man who denies assaulting his partner and her six-year-old son at the flat where they all lived.

    Magistrates in Ipswich have been out for about 30 minutes.

    The defendant was allowed to leave the courthouse for an e-cigarette while he waited.

    Alongside the two longer trials Ipswich magistrates have been dealing with today, a speeding offence trial was over within 15 minutes. 

    A 39-year-old man was accused of driving 5mph over the 30mph speed limit on Tuddenham Road in the town.

    He contested it and the magistrates accepted evidence from his garage that his speedometer was inaccurate.

    The trial of a man accused of assaulting his partner and her six-year-old son is close to finishing at Ipswich Magistrates' Court.

    Everyone who was meant to take part has turned up and the 33-year-old man in the dock has represented himself when being examined by the prosecution.

    The defendant in an assault trial has said he flicked a kitchen door shut and it caught a six-year-old boy's finger.

    The 33-year-old has no counsel representing him at Ipswich Magistrates Court, although a barrister was appointed on his behalf when the female alleged victim was questioned.

    The defendant has been answering questions for 37 minutes.

    The mother said she asked the defendant to leave the home as the arguments escalated.
