Decisions are made by a bench of three magistrates, who are volunteers who hear cases in courts in their community.

The proposed closure of Lowestoft Magistrates' Court would make it very difficult for many people in North Suffolk to access justice. If the court’s work is transferred to other courts, people in Lowestoft, the market towns and the rural areas will face considerable challenges in getting to court. In an area where wages are generally low, the poorest and most vulnerable will be most at risk.”

Peter Aldous, Conservative MP for Waveney
