    It will be a mainly dry night with a few clear intervals, but generally turning cloudier. It will become rather breezy with a moderate southwesterly wind, which does mean a mild night, the minimum 9C (48F).

    Saturday will be a very windy day with a good deal of cloud and just the odd spot of light rain or drizzle. Southwesterly winds will become strong with gusts to 55mph (86km/h).

    Despite this, temperatures will reach a very mild 13C (55F) in places.

    Concerns are being raised about the level of cuts announced by Suffolk Police, by one of the county's previous chief constables.

    Suffolk Police will cut 94 officer and PCSO posts in total

    Alastair McWhirter, who led Suffolk Police between 2003 and 2007, says the cuts will have a severe effect.

    "They've still got some more savings to make... Those savings you will not be able to do without cutting back on people and that will reduce services. Technology can only so much."

  4. Sheltered housing scheme opens its own shoppublished at 17:50

    The Trafalgar House sheltered housing scheme in Ipswich has set up its own shop which is run by residents.

    David Harding, the man behind the project, said: "I think the first week we took something like seven or eight pounds and now it's grown to hundreds.

    "We tend to add a penny on average to each item. The penny covers any wastage we might have for whatever reason... Everyone's amazed by how cheap it is."

    Jonathan Douglas has found his feet at Ipswich Town and might be keener than most to get on the scoresheet against Middlesbrough tonight at Portman Road.

    The Irishman was part of the Brentford squad that lost to the Teesiders in last season's Championship play-offs. 

     "It was really tough to take," Douglas said. "They're a good side and they've added even more quality this season." 

  7. Suffolk's rail services are 'unacceptable' and need improvementspublished at 17:15

    Network rail and the companies that want to run train services in the Greater Anglia region have been told at a summit in Ipswich today the present service is unacceptable and urgent improvements are needed.

    James Finch, who's responsible for transport at the county council, says: "Our rail services in this part of the world are unacceptable. They're unacceptable to passengers and to a growing economy."

    The three companies on the shortlist for the franchise, due to be renewed in October 2016, comprises of a joint bid by current operator Abellio and Stagecoach, National Express and First Group.

    Ipswich Town face one of their least favourite opponents tonight when Middlesbrough visit Portman Road.

    Boro's summer signing David Nugent has scored 14 goals in 13 games against Ipswich. He's played at Portman Road for Preston, Portsmouth, Leicester and England U21 and scored on every single occasion. 

    "He's probably scored more goals against us than the rest of the league put together," joked Town manager, Mick McCarthy.

  12. It's 'deluded' to think police cuts will lead to a better service, former chief constable sayspublished at 13:50

    As plans to make job cuts and close the majority of the county's police stations to the public are revealed, a former Suffolk chief constable says it will mean "a diminishing of service" to people in the county.

    Alastair McWhirter told BBC Suffolk: "Anyone who's under the illusion that this will be a better service is really deluded.

    "You can't cut the number of people that have been cut and you can't cut the number of front line people that have been cut without affecting front line services."

  13. Police cuts: Cuts are a 'fundamental threat' says Unisonpublished at 13:42

    Among the cuts being made as Suffolk Police save £5m over the next two years, is the loss of 28 front line police staff and 68 Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs).

    Mark Trask is secretary of the Suffolk Police branch of the union Unison, which represents PCSOs.

    He said: "First and foremost we're going to try and look after the welfare of people who have just been devastated by news pre-Christmas... This is a fundamental threat and it's not just happening here in Suffolk, it's happening everywhere."

    Images of Volvo cars have been released by Suffolk Police on the 29th birthday of missing Suffolk teenager Luke Durbin, he was was last seen in Ipswich town centre on 12 May 2006.

    The vehicles are similar to the one seen on CCTV minutes after the last images of Luke in Ipswich and police hope the images may jog someone’s memory to help trace the driver and any occupants.

    Det Supt John Brocklebank said: "We appreciate that this is nine years ago, but you may be able to help us identify who was driving this vehicle that night."

  15. Football: Chance for Ipswich to get into play-off places tonightpublished at 13:35

    Ipswich will go back into the play-off places if they win at Portman Road tonight. If Middlesbrough win, they will go top of the Championship.

    Striker David McGoldrick will be on the bench tonight, although manager Mick McCarthy has said if he's brought on, it'll only be for a short period.

    "That's a nice asset to have at the end of the game. We all know that if he gets a chance, he's got the ability to finish it."

  16. Suffolk New College fails to improve on Ofsted ratingpublished at 13:20

    Suffolk New College in Ipswich has failed to improve on its OFSTED rating from 2014, being ranked as "requiring improvement" in the education watchdog's latest inspection, external.

    The new principal of Suffolk New College, Viv Gillespie, says the goals to move forward are clear and there must not be excuses about what needs to be done.

    Positives highlighted by Ofsted were good support for students and the value of the work experience they're given.

  17. Temporary Chief Constable explains implications of £5m police cutspublished at 13:10

    Suffolk Police has revealed how it plans to save £5m over the next two years, part of the overall saving of more than £20m by March 2020 which is already under way.

    In future only three police stations will be open to the public. Staffing will be down too, with fewer police officers, police staff, and PCSOs.

  18. Robbery at Ipswich convenience storepublished at 13:00

    A man threatened an Ipswich shop assistant with a screwdriver during a robbery at a store in St John's Road last night.

    The man then leaned over and took an amount of cash from the till and ran out of the convenience store, heading towards Tokio Road, police said.

    The incident happened at about 18:00.
