  2. Mental health response to Karen Kimber casepublished at 17:50

    The Norfolk and Suffolk Foundation Trus, externalt, which provides mental health care in the county, has issued a statement in connection with the Karen Kimber case which says:

    "Our own internal investigation has presented no evidence to suggest that Karen Kimber received anything other than an effective and appropriate level of care, and that the Trust was delivering regular support and contact."

    A review into the case is under way by the Waveney Community Safety Partnership, external.

  3. Review taking place into case of mentally ill woman who killed her fatherpublished at 17:38

    A review is under way into the handling of a case in north Suffolk where a mentally ill woman killed her father.

    Karen Kimber, 53, from Lowestoft, admitted the manslaughter of Dennis Nicholls, 89, by diminished responsibility.

    Mr Nicholls had called police but there was a delay in attending the scene, by which time he had died.

    Ipswich defender Christophe Berra says getting an early lead in away games has given Town a base from which to build.

    In contrast to their patchy record at Portman Road, Town are currently the best away side in the Championship, having won their last four matches on the road.

    "We've scored early and teams have found it difficult to break us down," Berra said. "We've not been bad at home, we just need to get more victories."

    Suffolk County Council says it needs to analyse the detail of today's announcement over future funding, external from the government, to understand the impact it may have on budget proposals

    Richard Smith, who's responsible for finance, said: "This news today is broadly what we expected, and demonstrates the scale of the tough decisions we are currently considering through ongoing budget discussions."

  7. Police claim success with anti-drugs campaign in Haverhillpublished at 17:14

    Six people have been arrested following a crackdown by police on drug crimes in Haverhill.

    Officers have been targeting gangs from north London.

    Insp Peter Ferrie, who has been leading the investigation, said: "We’ve had a lot of information and intelligence coming in from members of the public in Haverhill, and that's really allowed us to be quite effective over the last three to four months."

  11. Suffolk County Council to receive less government funding than expectedpublished at 13:54

    Suffolk County Council will receive nearly £18m less that it expected from the government by way of Revenue Support Grant over the next four years.

    Figures released, external today show they'll receive just over £160m, compared to an anticipated £178m.

    The reduction will be offset to a certain degree by the ability to retain more of the income raised through business taxes, which used to be passed on to government, and other grants.

  12. Pantomime character resorts to wheelchair after suffering knee injurypublished at 13:46

    A member of the cast of Sleeping Beauty, at the Marina Theatre, external in Lowestoft, is planning to use a walking frame during today's performance, having injured his knee during the last dress rehearsal.

    Steve Shappelle, who plays Nurse Katy, has already used a wheelchair to ensure the show goes on.

    "I refused to go to hospital with the paramedics wearing red tights, false boobs and a blue leotard," he said. "The rest of the cast have been marvellous."

  13. Court appearances in connection with Ipswich armed robberiespublished at 13:38

    Four people will appear at Ipswich Magistrates court, external next month, in relation to a series of armed robberies that took place in the town earlier this year.

    One woman from the town has been charged with conspiracy to conceal/convert or transfer criminal property and will appear at court on 12 January.

    Two men and a second woman, also from Ipswich, have been summonsed for conspiracy to commit robbery,and will appear on the same day. One of the men has also been summonsed on a further charge.

    Twelve F-15 fighter jets based at RAF Lakenheath, external in Suffolk are returning home from Turkey.

    They were based there to help the Turkish military fly training missions. The US personnel also helped to secure Turkish airspace.

    Suffolk Police will get an extra £600,000 of funding from the government next year.

    It's been announced the force will receive £111.6m for 2016/17.

    Earlier this month, Suffolk Police announced cuts to frontline staff in a bid to save £20m by 2020.

    Ipswich midfielder Cole Skuse believes Town can continue to defy the odds and challenge the Championship's heaviest investors.

    Tuesday's win at Fulham means Mick McCarthy's men are sixth in the Championship table, ahead of Saturday's game against big-spending Derby County.

    "Everyone writes off Ipswich as a club that hasn't spent any money," Skuse said. "You look at teams who have spent a lot and consider how well we're doing - so it does give you a little sense of achievement."

  20. Woman admits manslaughter of fatherpublished at 12:29

    A Lowestoft woman strangled her elderly father after repeatedly seeking help as her mental illness deteriorated, the Old Bailey has heard.

    Karen Kimber, 53, admitted the manslaughter by diminished responsibility of her 89-year-old father Dennis Nicholls, at the home they shared in Kirkley Run, in November 2014.

    Afterwards Kimber told the police she thought her father was "the devil" and she wanted to "release the beast" in him.

    The judge has sentenced her to a hospital order, detaining her into the care of medical professionals.
