    Needham Market FC, external's home match tonight against Grays Athletic has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. 

    Bloomfields has failed a pitch inspection this morning and the tie will have to be rearranged for a undetermined date. 

    The Marketmen put together an eight-game unbeaten spell in November which saw them move away from the relegation zone, but are currently on a four-game losing streak.

  2. Police claim continuing success in fight against drugs in Ipswichpublished at 12:12

    Class A drugs with an approximate street value of £16,550, including more than 1,000 wraps prepared for sale, were seized by Suffolk Police, external in December.

    More than £4,000 in cash was also seized and 17 people arrested, of whom seven were charged.

    Det Ch Insp Barry Byford said: "These arrests show that our work to target drug dealers, including those who travel down from London to Ipswich to sell their drugs, is having a positive effect."

  3. Prof Stephen Hawking to speak at Kesgrave conferencepublished at 12:00

    Prof Stephen Hawking, external has been named as guest speaker at a conference in October organised by Headway Suffolk, external.

    The charity says the world-renowned scientist and subject of Oscar-winning film The Theory of Everything, external, has accepted its invitation to speak as inspiration to others.

    Chief executive Helen Fairweather says: "It is an unimaginable honour to have him speak at our conference and inspire others, especially those with a neurological condition." 

  4. Little Mix to appear at Newmarket Nightspublished at 11:01

    X Factor winners from 2011, Little Mix, external, will be headlining Summer Saturday Live, external at the July Course in Newmarket on 27 August.

    Since their success in X Factor, the band has sold over seven million records and had two UK No 1 singles.

    Summer Saturday Live is the final event of the summer on the July Course, which last year saw performances from Kylie, Spandau Ballet, Tom Jones and the Kaiser Chiefs.

  5. Village hall in line for improvements, thanks to lottery cashpublished at 10:07

    Supporters of Metfield Village Hall, external, near Harleston, have received more than £270,000 from the Big Lottery Fund, external to improve and expand the facility.

    The money will be used to build a new café and drop-in centre to support people who may be feel isolated in a rural community with no pub.

    Robert Steven, one of the fundraisers, said: "If we have a new lounge it'll be somewhere people can drop in, meet their friends, in a casual way without there having to be an organised function which is how typically the village hall works at the moment."

  6. Historic radar station gets £1.4m grantpublished at 09:04

    A building credited with helping secure Britain's victory in World War Two has been awarded a £1.4m grant to help preserve it.

    The transmitter block, built in 1938 on the Suffolk coast, is crumbling and letting in water.

    The Bawdsey Radar Trust, external will use the Heritage Lottery Fund money to conserve the fabric of the building and increase the number of public open days.

  7. Home tie against Bournemouth awaits winner of Ipswich vs Portsmouth replaypublished at 08:53

    Ipswich Town will host Bournemouth in the FA Cup fourth round, if they can see off Portsmouth in a replay in a week's time at Fratton Park.

    Bournemouth beat Birmingham 2-1 at St Andrews in their third-round tie with substitute Glenn Murray scoring the winner in the final five minutes of the game.

    Ties will be played between 29 January and 1 February.

  9. Crash pilots' insurers 'in no contest'published at 08:35

    Insurers for the pilots of a helicopter, which crashed killing them and two passengers including Lord Ballyedmond, are not contesting responsibility, a solicitor has said.

    James Healy-Pratt is representing the family of the peer, who was one of Northern Ireland's richest men, at an inquest into the deaths in Suffolk.

    He said the family believed the crash, in March 2014, was "preventable". A crash report said the crew was unhappy about taking off in heavy fog.

    Today's strike by junior doctors has led to 80 outpatient appointments being postponed at Ipswich Hospital, external, but the chief executive says no operations have been affected, and no effect on waiting times at A&E is expected.

    Nick Hulme told BBC Suffolk: "We’ve got most of the hospital full this morning. There'll be discharges from first thing so we'll create some capacity but we're not expecting there to be any longer delay in A&E as a result of the strike. 

    "All the doctors in A&E, because they're providing emergency cover, will be working as normal."
