    Scattered wintry showers will gradually fade away tonight, leaving largely clear skies.

    It will become very cold with a widespread, hard frost and risk of ice, and a few freezing fog patches as the winds gradually ease, with temperatures falling as low as -5C (23F) in prone rural spots.

    A cold, frosty and potentially icy start to Tuesday with freezing fog patches slow to clear, otherwise it will be dry tomorrow with long spells of sunshine. 

    Feeling chilly with a gentle southerly breeze, and temperatures peaking at 7C (45F).

    The owner of Ipswich Port, external says it has already spent £600 this year on replacing four lifebuoys after vandals damaged them or threw them into the Wet Dock.

    Andrew Harston, from Associated British Ports, said: "They're there for the occasion when somebody does fall in the water and gets themselves into trouble.

    " Pulling them off their stands... and literally throwing them into the dock for a bit of sport in the evening just doesn't help anyone that really is in danger."

  4. Vellum tradition to continue at Parliamentpublished at 17:30 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2016

    A centuries-old tradition of recording copies of Parliament's laws on calf skin will continue, the West Suffolk MP and Cabinet Office minister Matt Hancock has said, after a bid to axe the practice.

    The House of Lords said switching from vellum to archival paper could save about £80,000 a year.

    But Mr Hancock said the technique was "cost-effective" and should be protected.

    Police, external are also appealing for witnesses to a collision on Foxhall Road in Ipswich on Saturday night.

    The male driver and passenger of a black Ford Mondeo, along with a woman from a grey Citroen C4, were taken to hospital with serious injuries after the two vehicles were involved in a collision.

    The road was closed for several hours while emergency services dealt with the incident.

    The driver of a slate grey 4x4 vehicle is being urged to come forward as a possible witness to a fatal crash on the A12 at Martlesham on Thursday.

    Police, external say the driver of the vehicle, thought to be a woman in her 40s to early 50s with blonde hair, may not have realised the seriousness of the incident.

    A 20-month-old girl died at Addenbrooke's Hospital following the collision, which happened on the southbound carriageway between the Tesco and BT roundabouts, at about 13:45.

  8. Sir Trevor Nunn to direct A Midsummer Night's Dream at the New Wolsey Theatrepublished at 17:05 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2016

    Ipswich-born director Sir Trevor Nunn, external is returning to his home town this summer to direct Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" at the New Wolsey Theatre, external.

    Open auditions will take place in March for the cast, which will feature young performers aged between eight and 13.  

    The former artistic director of the Royal Shakespeare Company, external has directed 36 out of the Bard's 37 plays, and this will complete the set.

    A late Femi Akinwande penalty was enough to give Colchester victory over Ipswich Town’s U21s, external at Florence Park this afternoon.

    Waveney District Council, external says it has withdrawn from the purchase of the former Sanyo factory site in Lowestoft as Sanyo failed to clear the land by the agreed date of 31 January 2016.

    The council had hoped to build new homes on the site, and had secured a grant of £1m from the government's Homes and Communities Agency, external, which it says it can now use towards alternative affordable housing scheme in the district.

    We are contacting Sanyo to get its response to this latest development.

    It will be a cold and breezy afternoon across the county, with a mixture of sunny spells and scattered wintry showers.

    We've been bringing you a selection of photographs of the snow during the morning, but I've got to be honest and say I think this one from BBC Weather Watcher Simon W in Mildenhall is my favourite so far.

    I don't what you see when you look at it, but to me it's two ducklings. I just wonder what they're saying to each other.

  13. Police name victim of fatal collision at Branthampublished at 15:14 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2016

    A man who died following a collision on the A137 at Brantham has been named as George Richard Mortimer, who lived at Brantham Hill.

    The 87-year-old was walking in the area close to his home when he was involved in a collision with a Renault Scenic at about 23:20 on Saturday night. He died in hospital a few hours later.

    His family say: "Affectionately known as Richard, he had lived and worked in the Brantham area for much of his life.”

    Ipswich Town, external manager Mick McCarthy is pleased with the efforts of recent additions Kevin Foley and Ben Pringle (pictured), who both made their full debuts in Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Bristol City, playing in a variety of roles.

    "I thought Kevin Foley, when he went into the midfield, was outstanding," said McCarthy.

    On Pringle, he said: "He's not been playing for quite a while. We've not yet seen the best of him. But I'm pleased with him. I'm delighted we've got him."

  15. Investigations continue into death of pedestrian in Brantham on Saturdaypublished at 14:17 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2016

    Police are continuing to investigate the death of a man, external in his 80s following a collision on the A137 at Brantham on Saturday night.

    They were called following reports that a Renault Scenic car had collided with a pedestrian at about 23:20 in a 30mph zone.

    The man was taken to Colchester Hospital with serious injuries, and died a few hours later.

    A £3m revamp of Ipswich town centre could start next year now that civic leaders have "crossed no man's land" to work together, local MP Ben Gummer has said.

  18. Teenagers asked to forego half term break to learn more about science and technologypublished at 13:27

    Lowestoft College, external (pictured) and University Campus Suffolk, external are hosting projects during half-term this week, to try to address the lack of skills and encourage more young people to study science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subjects.

    Claire Hopkins, project lead for Suffolk's Stem Accelerator programme, external, says they have a huge range of employers that support them:

    "Creating effective links with local STEM businesses is key, we have a lot of expertise there to support young people."

    There'll be some wintry showers around this morning, and this will lead to some icy stretches developing in places. 

    The showers will ease off this afternoon though, with sunny spells and patchy cloud throughout the day. Top temperature: 6C (43F).

    Skies will mostly clear during the evening, so there'll be more frost and ice developing overnight, with a chance of some mist or fog patches too. Minimum temperature: -3C (27F).
