    A chilly day on Tuesday with a mixture of sunny spells and patchy cloud, which will bring a few scattered wintry showers, these becoming frequent in parts of Norfolk and Suffolk during the afternoon.

    Simon Dobbin's 17-year-old daughter Emily says she's over the moon that he's expected to be back in his Mildenhall home by the end of the week.

    He was left with life-changing brain injuries after being assaulted after a football match in Essex last March.

    Emily says: "I'm excited but nervous at the same time because there's so much to do and a huge responsibility. I've been shaving him, doing his medication... helping my mum get him into the wheelchair but it's given me a lot of experience as well."

  7. Six arrested during day of action at Copdockpublished at 17:14 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February 2016

    Six people were arrested, external, including four for drug-driving, during a police operation at Copdock on Friday.

    Working alongside police, the Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency, external issued 13 prohibition notices for vehicles, taking them off the road due to their condition. A further eight drivers were told action needed to be taken quickly to rectify faults found.

    In addition, police also issued nearly 70 traffic offence reports for a range of driving offences, including driving with no insurance or driving a vehicle in a dangerous condition.

    With it's geographical proximity to Europe, our trading links with the EU and many of our local MPs in the leave campaign - the East of England will be at the forefront of this debate.

    Those who want to leave will keep telling us that in the East of England we send £1.9bn a year to Brussels in taxes - but have had just £1.5bn from the EU in grants over the last seven years. 

    The stay campaign will argue the benefits of EU membership are worth far more than just what we get in grants. They will talk about the £14bn of trade we do with the EU a year and the open borders policy which allows people to freely travel and work across the continent.

    The MP for South Suffolk, who along with five of his colleagues in the county has said he supports Britain's continuing membership of the EU, doesn't think it will be difficult to campaign "because the people involved are so motivated".

    The MP for Suffolk Coastal, Therese Coffey, is the only one of the county's MPs yet to decide her stance.

    As we mentioned earlier, a consultation into the future of Suffolk's fire service, external ends at 17:00 today. The county council, external needs to make £1.3m of savings over the next two years.

    Matthew Hicks, who's responsible for public protection, says their role now is to collate the responses and taken them into account.

    "Absolutely no decisions have been made at this stage and the plans and proposals need to be discussed in the coming months with officers and councillors before we draw up conclusions for the cabinet," he said.

  12. Simon Dobbin's wife 'apprehensive' at the prospect of him coming homepublished at 15:53 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February 2016

    The wife of Simon Dobbin, the Mildenhall man who was attacked outside a pub in Southend after watching his team Cambridge United play, admits she's "apprehensive" at the prospect of her husband coming home.

    During the attack last March, Mr Dobbin suffered a cardiac arrest and it took emergency services seven minutes to get his heart restarted, which caused hypoxic brain damage.  

    Nicole Dobbin, pictured with daughter Emily, says she'll worry about doing things like going shopping and leaving her husband, even though he'll be left with a carer. "I think it'll lift his spirits even more because at the moment he's gone down hill a little bit. I do believe once home he'll start talking."

  13. Dunwich research project 'offers a marvellous history of climate change'published at 15:29 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February 2016

    Underwater imaging techniques have revealed the Dunwich ruins through the murky water of the North Sea. The research is part of the Touching the Tide, external project, which has been exploring the changing Suffolk coast.

    Marshes and eroding cliffs have also been surveyed. Prof David Sear, of the University of Southampton, said pollen analysis revealed how people "gave up on Dunwich" after 1338, when a third great storm in about 50 years silted up the port for good.

    He added: "It offers a marvellous history of climate change and coastal erosion."

    Ipswich Town, external manager Mick McCarthy has admitted there's "every chance" midfielder Jay Tabb will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.

    The 32-year-old hasn't appeared in the Championship this campaign, with his four appearances all coming in cup competitions.

    "Tabby will know that, he's not played many games this season," McCarthy said. "He's well loved and respected by all the fans for what he does, but we'll see. He might be one of the ones who moves on."
