Former Town player and director of Academy sales Simon Milton says: "Bryan was Mr Ipswich. He was fanatical about the club.
"When I was a player, whether we were at home or away, Bryan would be there, commentating on the game. He travelled on the team bus on occasions and was trusted and liked by the players.
"He was very good at his job, as well as being a big supporter of the Football Club and my thoughts go out to his family at this very sad time."

"It’s very sad news and our deepest condolences go to his family and friends at this difficult time."

The southbound A11 on approach to the Fiveways roundabout in Suffolk, and one lane of its northbound approach, will be closed overnight for up to three nights this week to allow for safety improvements to be carried out.
Highways England, external says the work, which will take place from Wednesday to Saturday, will improve safety and traffic flows by changing the road markings and signs on the roundabout and its approaches to more clearly direct traffic into the correct lanes.
The closures will be in operation between 22:00 and 06:00 with traffic diversions via the B1107 and A1065.
The editor of BBC Suffolk, Peter Cook, has joined those paying tribute to Bryan Knights this evening saying: "He was a legend of a broadcaster.
"Many Town fans will have grown up listening to his commentaries and he really was the voice of Ipswich Town for season after season.
"Away from the microphone Bryan was a warm, kind man with a smile for everyone. We'll miss him terribly."
A 36-year-old Felixstowe man has been arrested on suspicion of arson, external following a fire at Great Eastern Square in the town last month.
Police and fire crews were called to the blaze at The Wharf on February 24.
Police are continuing to appeal for anyone with information about the fire to come forward, particularly anyone who may have found discarded burnt clothing in the town that morning.
Chris Louis, former manager and rider at Ipswich Witches, says Bryan Knights, whose death has been announced this afternoon, was close not only to the Witches "but just about every local sporting club of different sports; that's what I'll always remember".

Former Town manager George Burley says Bryan Knights, the BBC Radio Suffolk broadcaster who died today, was "Ipswich through and through".

"He really loved Ipswich Speedway [too], he loved going there, he loved his sport... it's a sad loss."

A former Suffolk and Essex cricketer has paid tribute to BBC Radio Suffolk sports reporter and former Ipswich Town commentator Bryan Knights, who died in Ipswich Hospital today after a long illness.
Speaking to me earlier this afternoon, Ray East said: "He loved cricket and he was involved with Suffolk County Cricket Club for many many years.
"I remember seeing him there many times reporting on the games, ringing in his report to Radio Suffolk and he'd be freezing cold but he was a stickler for detail. He loved the game, he really did."

BBC Radio Suffolk broadcaster and former headteacher Bryan Knights has died at the age of 72. He passed away in Ipswich Hospital.
In recent times Bryan had been dogged with ill health which curtailed his passion for covering just about any competitive sport.
For many years Bryan commentated on Ipswich Town and reported on Suffolk Cricket matches as well as Ipswich Witches meetings.
He also loved golf and racing.
Released full-back or midfielder Kyle Hammond will have impressed any watching scouts by scoring twice, external as Town’s U21s beat Watford 2-1 away in a game played behind closed doors at the Hornets’ training ground this afternoon.

It follows an incident in which a woman was hit by a small white van while on a zebra crossing.
She was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Town boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed that Ben Pringle’s loan with the Blues will be extended from its initial month, external, which is up this week, through to the end of the season and the play-off semi-finals, but not the final if the Blues reach Wembley.

Teenage midfielder Andre Dozzell is once again part of the Ipswich Town, external squad travelling to Bolton for tomorrow night's Championship game.

"He's in and around the squad now. He's growing up and maturing and he'll certainly end up being in the first team at some stage," manager Mick McCarthy told BBC Suffolk.

Ipswich Town, external fans needn't worry about their latest goal hero leaving Portman Road any time soon, according to manager Mick McCarthy.
Image source, Getty ImagesWinger Ben Pringle - who's on loan from Fulham - has scored Town's winner in their last two games, lifting them to within a point of the Championship play-off places.
"It's guaranteed until the end of the season. We took him for an initial month but that deal had a break clause, for an international break, so we could extend it as long as we possibly could in case we get in the play-offs," said McCarthy.
