    Ipswich Town, external manager Mick McCarthy has explained why 16-year-old midfielder Andre Dozzell didn't make his debut against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

    The England Under-17 international - whose father Jason made his debut for the club at 16 - was included in Town's senior squad for the first time, but remained on the bench.

    "He would be a free substitute if there were 10 minutes to go and we're 3-0 up or down. Then there'd be a chance to introduce him into the team and give him some minutes," said McCarthy.

    Ipswich Town, external striker Daryl Murphy (pictured) could miss tomorrow's Championship game at Bolton, but midfielder Jonathan Douglas will be fit enough to return.

    The experienced pair both sat out Saturday's win over Nottingham Forest; Murphy with a calf problem and Douglas with a foot injury.

    Manager Mick McCarthy told BBC Suffolk: "I'm not sure whether Murph will make it. He's had problems with his calf and his achilles so we've got to protect them and make sure he's ok. Dougie will be fine."

    Suffolk-based Thompson & Morgan, external has paid a world record amount - £1,250 - for a single giant pumpkin seed, after a bidding war at the Great Pumpkin Commonwealth Conference, external.

    The company is now looking for a vegetable grower in the UK willing to take on the seed in an attempt to break the world record. 

    Horticultural director Paul Hansord said they didn't have time to look after the plant themselves: "We have all the tips and specialist knowledge to pass on to the chosen grower to give them the best success with the seed."

    Ipswich Town, external pair Cole Skuse (pictured) and Jonathan Douglas have both recovered from their injuries and could play a part at Bolton tomorrow.

    Skuse has missed the last four matches with a toe problem while a cut foot kept Douglas out of Saturday's victory over Nottingham Forest.

    Kevin Bru has overcome the sickness bug that forced him off at the weekend although Daryl Murphy faces a late decision on his calf issue.

  8. Lorry driver pleads guilty to careless driving in Woolpitpublished at 12:20 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2016

    A man has pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention following an incident on Friday in Woolpit.

    Neculai Slabu, 23,of no fixed abode, appeared at Ipswich Magistrates' Court on Saturday, and was given one day's detention, three penalty points on his driving licence and fined £60.

    In addition he was ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £20 victim's surcharge.

  9. No prospect of kerbside glass recycling, says councilpublished at 12:04 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2016

    Residents in the county have been told the possibility of kerbside glass recycling has been ruled out, because of the costs involved.

    Matthew Hicks, in charge of public protection at Suffolk County Council, said it was a matter of weighing up the cost of schemes "...but we never stand still in Suffolk; we're always looking at ways of redeveloping recycling."

    His comments came as it was revealed rates of recycling had stayed static in Suffolk over the last three years.

  10. Endangered species of birds could be helped by new scheme involving solar farmspublished at 11:47 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2016

    Some solar farm sites in Suffolk are to be developed into natural habitats for threatened species of birds.

    The joint project, external by RSPB and the green technology company, Anesco, hopes to try to conserve wildlife blighted by intensive farming.

    The agreement, the first of its kind in the UK, will see the creation of natural habitats for some of the country’s most at-risk species. It comes after research by the RSPB and other partners in 2013 revealed 60% of UK species had declined over the previous 50 years.

    Ipswich Women's defeat at Cambridge on Saturday means they'll be relegated from the Eastern Conference at the end of the season. 

    The Suffolk side were beaten 1-0, while second-bottom Maidenhead won 3-2 at home to Harleston.

    BBC Suffolk presenter Mark Murphy is encouraging people to join in with his campaign to make Suffolk the first hedgehog-friendly county in the country.

    He's even got artist Birdie, whose recent image of Pudsey mourning the death of Terry Wogan went viral, to create this mascot for the campaign.

    Suffolk Wildlife Trust says hedgehog numbers have dropped alarmingly, external in the last 10 years, and it fears up to a third of the UK's hedgehogs have been lost.

    Suffolk darts player Peter Wright has been beaten in the final of the UK Open in Minehead.

    The 45-year-old from Mendham went down 11-4 to world number one Michael van Gerwen - the second year in a row he's finished as runner-up.

    "I didn't even give him a game to be honest, but fair play to him, he's the best player on the planet," said Wright.

    A dedicated hedgehog officer could be employed in Ipswich after the town proved to be a hotspot for the animals.

    Hundreds of people reported seeing hedgehogs in the town, either dead or alive, as part of a survey by Suffolk Wildlife Trust, external.  

    BBC Suffolk has announced a new campaign, alongside the trust, to help the hedgehogs' plight.

    Ipswich Town, external boss Mick McCarthy has praised recent arrival Kevin Foley (pictured right) for his performance in Saturday's 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest.

    The 31-year-old - who's spent most of his career in defence - excelled in the centre of midfield as Town secured their second successive victory.

    "Kevin Foley was the stand-out player," said McCarthy. "He created the goal and for someone who's a full-back he's played everywhere for me. He's just a top pro and has been a really good acquisition for us."

    New figures show the amount of waste being recycled across our county has remained largely unchanged.

    David Barker, chairman of Suffolk - Creating the Greenest County, external, agrees that it has bottomed out as far as households go.

    He said: "A lot of people are doing fantastic, and there are still a lot of people who aren't doing enough."
