    A dog that ate a tube of expanding glue had to have an hour-long operation.

    Marley, a black cocker spaniel from Hitcham near Stowmarket, ended up with a congealed ball of food and glue stuck in his stomach.

    Dick White Referrals, external vets at Six Mile Bottom near Newmarket said the dog appeared to be showing no ill effects and was ready to go home a day later.

    Midfielder Liam Feeney is looking forward to playing under a different type of pressure at Ipswich Town between now and the end of the season.

    The 29-year-old is now chasing play-off football, having spent much of the campaign towards the bottom of the table with Bolton, which parted ways with manager Neil Lennon (pictured) this week. 

    "I felt for him as he was effectively working with his hands tied behind his back," Feeney told BBC Suffolk. "Everything that could have gone wrong at Bolton has gone wrong."

    The Duchess of Cambridge is to open a new charity shop for East Anglia's Children's Hospices later today.

    Kate, who is one of the charity's patrons, will be cutting the ribbon at the store in Holt, Norfolk.

    It will be EACH, external's 21st charity shop across Cambridgeshire, north Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk.

    The Ipswich author of a book has won an honour for coming up with the oddest title for his biography of a music hall "sand-dance" act.

    Alan Stafford's history of Wilson, Keppel and Betty, called Too Naked For The Nazis, has picked up the Diagram Prize.

    Stafford won't be getting any cash though, more "a passable bottle of claret" he thinks.

    Ipswich Witches, external have kicked off their new season with a 48-41 home defeat to Scunthorpe Scorpions in the Premier League Cup.

    Captain Danny King (pictured) top scored for the Suffolk side with 14 points, while Morten Risager weighed in with 10.

    "One of our weaknesses tonight was the trapping," said team manager Ritchie Hawkins. "I think you could see a lot of our boys were making their debuts and the nerves got to them."

    GE Aviation said the "phased closure" of its Newmarket plant will take place over the next 12 months.

    The firm, part of the General Electric multi-national company, confirmed 60 people will lose their jobs at the Exning Road site.

    A spokeswoman said: "GE Aviation regrets the loss of any job. We are providing ongoing support to employees including career services and guidance."

    It appears Liam Feeney's days at Bolton Wanderers are numbered, and the Ipswich loanee may have played his last game for the Trotters.

    The midfielder is keen to do well at Portman Road, with a view to earning a long term contract with the Suffolk club or another Championship rival. 

    "You're always in the shop window whenever you step onto the pitch," Feeney said. "My contract is up in the summer and I have an eye on impressing potential suitors."

    A dog from Suffolk has recovered after eating a tube of expanding glue.

    Marley, a seven-month-old cocker spaniel from Hitcham, near Bildeston, had to have a solid congealed lump of food and glue removed from his stomach by a surgeon at Dick White Referrals vets in Six Mile Bottom near Newmarket.

    The ball of glue and food measured about 6ins (15cm) in diameter.

    An Ipswich author has picked up a prize for oddest book title of the year.

    Alan Stafford gave the name Too Naked For The Nazis, external to his biography of music hall act Wilson, Keppel and Betty.

    It has won the Diagram Prize, which is run by The Bookseller, external magazine.

    GE Aviation, external, part of the General Electric group, has announced it is to close its operations in Newmarket with the loss of 60 jobs.

    A spokeswoman said it had been "evaluating ways to run the Newmarket operations more efficiently due to challenges in the market and in declining business conditions".

    The firm, which makes specialist electronic parts, said the decision to close followed the completion of this review.
