Detectives investigating a serious sexual assault in Newmarket are appealing for witnesses who may have seen a young woman in distress on Weston Way, between 06:30 and 07:30 on Friday, to come forward.

A young woman has reported she was raped at a property on the road.

A 37-year-old man from Newmarket was arrested on suspicion of rape, and a 17-year-old girl from the Cambridge area was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault.

They were questioned by police and have been released on bail until 6 September, pending further inquiries.

Police have called us to let us know that the object discovered at a caravan park in Corton is not dangerous.

We're not sure at this stage exactly what it is, but the cordon has now been lifted.

Jo Churchill, the MP for Bury St Edmunds, has reported back on discussions on the future of the town's magistrates court.

She said: "A productive meeting took place with HM Courts and Tribunal Service, the chair of magistrates, the high sheriff, the police and crime commissioner and the chief constable.

"The outcome of the meeting was that there is scope for all interested parties to work on practical solutions to ensure access to justice in both the short and longer term, in Suffolk."

A cyclist has been transferred to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge with what police have described as "life-threatening" head injuries.

The man was riding a black and white Giant bicycle at the junction of the A1189 Nacton Road and Ravenswood Avenue in Ipswich last night, at about 20:30, when he fell off his bike.

Police say it's unknown whether a collision with a dark-coloured vehicle, possibly a BMW, caused him to fall off, and want to trace anyone who was in the vicinity at the time.

He was originally taken to Ipswich Hospital, but subsequently transferred to the Cambridge hospital.

Friday is looking largely dry, with spells of sunshine. Temperatures inland could reach 21C (70F), but it'll be cooler on the coast with an onshore breeze.

Public Health England says it's offered Hepatitis A vaccinations to pupils and staff at an Ipswich primary school. 

The news comes as two cases of the disease have been confirmed at Whitton Primary School.

Dr David Irwin, consultant in communicable disease control, said: "Both cases are recovering well. We are working with the school, school nursing services and Ipswich & East Suffolk CCG to ensure all necessary public health action is being taken. 

"This includes the offer of hepatitis A vaccination to all pupils and onsite staff as part of a voluntary immunisation programme."

This morning we brought you news that councillors in the Suffolk Coastal district were being recommended to approve an application for 300 new homes, external at Bell Lane in Kesgrave.

We've just spoken to the council, which says the application was in fact refused.

At this stage, we don't have any further details as to what happens next.

Let's return to news of the Azure Seas caravan park at Corton, near Lowestoft, where a caravan was evacuated after a "suspicious" metal object was dug up.

It's still not clear what was unearthed, but bomb disposal experts are dealing with the object, and we're told they've described it as "interesting". 

There's still a cordon around part of the holiday park, and nearby Corton Road remains closed as a precaution.

Ipswich Witches, external take on Glasgow Tigers tonight in Speedway's Premier League, with Ben Barker back in the Witches line-up following his release by the Scottish club.

Barker previously rode for the Suffolk side in 2013 and says he is determined to win trophies at Foxhall second time around. 

"Get behind me and get behind the boys," Barker told Witches fans. "We want your support and hopefully we will bring you some silverware."

Two cases of the infectious disease Hepatitis A, external have been reported at a school in Ipswich.

As reported in today's Ipswich Star, external, the cases involve pupils at Whitton Primary School.

NHS England says the disease can be "unpleasant but is not usually serious". 

Public Health England has been called in to help with the situation.

The former manager of Leiston, Richard Wilkins, has been talking to us about being sacked by the club last month, despite guiding the Blues to their highest ever league finish.

The 51-year-old is already back in football at Needham Market, who will play Leiston on at least two occasions next season, as both are in the Ryman Premier Division., external

So, will that fixture be extra special for Wilkins?

"No, not really, it's just another game for me, although it will get the fans excited!" he said. 

The closure of the magistrates court in Bury St Edmunds is being raised today by the town's MP.

Jo Churchill said: "I have called for this meeting to be held between local stakeholders, local leaders and representatives from HM Courts and Tribunal Service because the establishment of an alternative local provision of local justice to Bury St Edmunds, in place of Bury St Edmunds Magistrates' Court, is paramount."

She added that she wants clarity over the closure of the court, and to push ahead with the consideration of alternative options.

We reported earlier how Martin Harrington and American Thomas Leonard are suing Suffolk singer Ed Sheeran for $20m (£13.8m) over his single Photograph, claiming it has a similar structure to their song, Amazing, written for Essex's Matt Cardle.

We've heard back from a representative for Sheeran, and been told no comment will be made on the litigation.

Bomb disposal experts are on their way to the Azure Seas caravan park in Corton, near Lowestoft, after a metal object was dug up.

Mark Price, from the park, said: "It’s cylindrical in shape with what looks like a pin.

"One caravan has been evacuated and a cordon is in place as a precaution." 

Police have closed a stretch of Corton Road, between Corton Long Lane and Links Road.

Long Road in Lowestoft is closed between Homefield Avenue and Blackheath Road, because of a collision between a scooter and a car.

Police say the motorcycle rider is being taken to the James Paget Hospital with serious leg injuries.

A female passenger in the car was injured, but is not thought to have needed hospital treatment.

A caravan park in Corton has been evacuated after a "suspicious" metal item was dug up beside one of the caravans, police say.

A bomb disposal team is expected to arrive at about 15:30.

The B1385 is currently closed between The Street in Corton, and Gunton Drive in Lowestoft.

Police say a number of caravans have been evacuated from a caravan park in Corton, after what's been described as a "suspicious" metal item was found.

This is a first for Local Live... news of a theft from a steam traction engine.

Police say a brass whistle was stolen from an address at Iliffe Way in Stowmarket, some time between 8 and 20 May.

It's 8in long (20cm) and has a thread at the bottom where it attaches to the engine.
