    Ed Sheeran has given his backing to Ed Sheer Ham, the pig-shaped statue unveiled in Ipswich this morning.

    "I’m really excited to have a pig sculpture made in my honour and I hope Ed Sheer Ham will be a huge hit on the Pigs Gone Wild trail in Ipswich this summer," the singer said.

    "The artist, Martin J Wall, has done a great job – I think he looks awesome."

    Plans for 300 new homes at Bell Lane, external in Kesgrave are being discussed this morning by councillors at Suffolk Coastal District Council.

    The decision was deferred the last time they talked about the proposals, in February.

    They need to make a decision today, and despite a lot of concern about the scheme, it's being recommended they give their approval.

    Police have released photographs of the Citroen C3 which was used by Ali Qazimaj, the man they want to trace in connection with the disappearance of Sylvia Stuart and the murder of her husband Peter.

    Det Ch Supt Simon Parkes said: "We are gradually building a picture as we continue to make inquiries to trace Ali Qazimaj. New information is coming in all the time and this continues to be a fast-moving inquiry.

    "Our inquiries continue to learn more about his roots and his links within the UK and overseas."

    Mr Qazimaj, who also uses the alias Marco Costa, was living in Tilbury, Essex. He's believed to have travelled to France on Saturday, having left his car in Dover.

    It was back in February that we brought you news that the porcine tribute was being created as part of the Pigs Gone Wild, external trail.

    Today, Suffolk County Council is unveiling its design for Ed Sheer Ham - a preview of which was released earlier this week.

    Colleagues have been paying tribute to Staff Sgt Hunter Davis, who died following a crash on Tuesday on the B1112 between Eriswell and Lakenheath.

    Maj Paul Lienhard, 352d Special Operations Maintenance Squadron commander at RAF Mildenhall, said: "We are deeply saddened by the sudden loss of a valuable airmen and a brother. Our hearts go out to Sgt Davis’ mother, father, family and friends.

    "It’s times like this we need to stop, take a look around and remember what is most important.

    "Aircraft can be repaired, lost time can be recovered, but a life, ended abruptly and without warning, is gone forever."

    As the investigation continues into the death of Peter Stuart and the disappearance of his wife Sylvia, police have told us they're hoping to issue an update into the inquiry later on today.

    Yesterday, Det Ch Supt Simon Parkes said it was becoming "less and less likely" that Mrs Stuart would be found alive.

    Ali Qazimaj, 42, who is wanted over the murder and disappearance, is thought to have boarded a ferry to Calais at 19:00 on Saturday.

    Det Ch Supt Parkes added: "We urgently need anyone who knows him, who may have spent time with him over the last few weeks or before this to get in touch and tell us more about his background so that we can trace his movements."

  18. Ipswich Town v Suffolk Police case continues at High Courtpublished at 09:23 British Summer Time 9 June 2016

    Let's take a look now at some of the other stories making the news across the county.

    The case will continue today at the High Court, where Ipswich Town Football Club is suing Suffolk Police for more than £200,000 - claiming it was "unlawfully" charged for policing costs on match days.

    Suffolk Constabulary has made a counterclaim against the club for more than £96,000 in unpaid invoices for policing costs.

    A pop music writer for the LA Times says Ed Sheeran could face a possible trial over claims of plagiarism from two California-based musicians.

    Randy Lewis said: "These are tricky cases and it's always a roll of the dice.

    "The attorney for the writers of Amazing have requested a jury trial and so when it goes to a jury you are dealing with average listeners as opposed to musical experts, so that's where anything can happen."

    Ed Sheeran has yet to comment on the claims.
