    Today started with flooding hitting some referendum polling stations and causing chaos for rail passengers.

    We later heard plans to revive the carnival in Bury St Edmunds and a scheme to recruit a hedgehog officer in Ipswich.

    It's been confirmed Nico Covatti (pictured) and Morten Risager will represent the club in the Premier League pairs, external meeting at Somerset on 8 July, with British Champion Danny King unavailable.

    The Witches have been drawn in Group B alongside the Edinburgh Monarchs, Sheffield Tigers, Rye House and Plymouth Devils.

    Along with the EU Referendum, weather has dominated talk in Suffolk today.

    There have been dark clouds over much of the county, including Lowestoft (pictured), but it brightened up later in the town.

  4. 'Make sure your kennel is secure'published at 16:51 British Summer Time 23 June 2016

    Following the news that 41 dogs had been stolen in the county since 2013, owners have been warned to take extra measures to keep hold of their animals.

    Tim Woodward, the Eastern regions surveyor for the Country Land and Business Association, said: "If you've got an outdoor kennel then for goodness sake, make sure it's secure.

    "We've heard of people having dogs stolen from people's gardens - I mean 52% of dogs taken in broad daylight from their owners' gardens."

  5. Dog thefts highlightedpublished at 16:19 British Summer Time 23 June 2016

    Forty one dogs have been stolen in Suffolk since 2013, a BBC local radio investigation has found.

    Rural crime officer PC Mark Bryant said: "It's a very difficult one to try to prevent. A dog is kept in a house, or in a kennel. 

    "What we have noticed is that the thefts do tend to be more of trained dogs, ie something that's got a particular value, or a market, which is the same as any other type of theft."

  7. Recruitment process starts for hedgehog officer in Ipswichpublished at 15:22 British Summer Time 23 June 2016

    Suffolk Wildlife Trust has started the search for a hedgehog officer for Ipswich.

    The recruitment process, external has started after the trust received backing from the Heritage Lottery Fund and British Hedgehog Preservation Society.

    As previously reported, the hedgehog officer will be based in Ipswich, as it proved to be a hotspot for the animal.

    It comes as BBC Radio Suffolk's Whole Hog campaign continues to try and make the county the most hedgehog friendly in the country.

    The Met Office has issued an amber warning of rain, external for the East of England until 23:00.

    Another step has been taken towards Bury St Edmunds carnival being revived.

    Last night, town councillors agreed to set up a working parking to investigate bringing the event back to the town.

    It's not been held for more than a decade.

    Victoria Pendleton said she's "in love" with horseracing, after winning a charity race at Newmarket this afternoon.

    "It's so exhilarating, I can't even explain," she said. "I love the company of the horses and how generous and accommodating they can be.

    "They're a marvel, a wonder. I'm in love."

    Pendleton, who turned to horses after a celebrated cycling career, added: "I'm going to carry on racing and see where it goes.

    "It's been such an incredible journey after the last 18 months and I don't feel like stopping any time soon. It's been a joy to be accepted into a new sport."

  11. Rail company apologises for disruptionpublished at 13:58 British Summer Time 23 June 2016

    Abellio Greater Anglia has apologised for the disruption affecting services between Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex into London today.

    In a statement, a spokesperson says this disruption is due to "extensive flooding, caused by heavy rain, which has necessitated the closure of the lines between Ilford and Stratford."

    Network Rail engineers are working to clear the lines as quickly as possible and passengers are encouraged to use alternative routes or delay their journeys where practical.

    The train company says it's working with Network Rail to restore the normal service as soon as possible and passengers affected by the disruption may be entitled to compensation, external.  

  12. Voting under way in EU Referendumpublished at 13:54 British Summer Time 23 June 2016

    Polling is well under way in the EU Referendum.

    Voters face a single question on the ballot form: "Should the United Kingdom remain a member of the European Union or leave the European Union?" 

    More than 548,000 people in Suffolk are eligible to vote. The polls are open until 22:00.

  13. Victoria Pendleton wins charity race at Newmarketpublished at 13:30 British Summer Time 23 June 2016

    The Olympic cycling gold medalist turned jockey Victoria Pendleton cruised to victory in a charity race at Newmarket this afternoon. 

    A short while ago she won the one-mile contest on Royal Etiquette.  

    Pendleton recently hit the headlines by coming fifth in the Foxhunter Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, on Pacha Du Polder.

    The Environment Agency currently has two flood alerts, external in place for Suffolk. 

    One is for Rattlesden River and River Gipping, through and including Stowmarket and Needham Market. 

    The second is for the River Deben and Lark, and the third is for the Rivers Box and Brett.

  16. Felixstowe woman 'died of stab wound'published at 12:46 British Summer Time 23 June 2016

    Det Ch Insp Caroline Millar (pictured) told the inquest that Mrs Ryan had "multiple stab wounds and blunt trauma injuries", and that a post-mortem examination concluded the cause of death was a stab wound to the aorta.

    She said forensic and other lines of inquiry were ongoing, including interviews with witnesses. 

    Asked by the coroner Yvonne Blake if she could confirm Mrs Ryan had been Mr Ryan's carer and that he had a history of epilepsy following his time in The Army, Det Ch Insp Millar confirmed that was the case. 

    The coroner adjourned the inquest until the conclusion of the court case.

  17. Jean Ryan inquest hears order of events on 13 Aprilpublished at 12:33 British Summer Time 23 June 2016

    Shaun Ryan, 61, was also at the bungalow and he was arrested after the incident on 13 April. 

    Mr Ryan was charged with the murder of his wife, who had been caring for him, on 16 April and has been remanded in custody. 

    He is next due at Ipswich Crown Court on 4 July.

  18. Jean Ryan inquest: Felixstowe man was being cared for by wifepublished at 11:53 British Summer Time 23 June 2016

    An inquest has heard a Felixstowe man charged with murdering his wife was being cared for by her. 

    Jean Ryan, 67, was stabbed to death at the bungalow she shared with her husband Shaun Ryan, 61. 

    The inquest in Ipswich heard she made a distressed phone call at 22:31 on 13 April.

    Police arrived at the Gosford Way home to find her on the bedroom floor. Paramedics could not save her and she died at the scene.

  19. Olympics: Ipswich athlete secures place in Riopublished at 11:44 British Summer Time 23 June 2016

    It's been confirmed that Suffolk's Katy Sealy will compete at this summer's Olympic Games.

    The 25-year-old won gold in the heptathlon at the Central American Championships just a couple of days ago, although she's set to compete in the 100 metres hurdles in Brazil. 

    She's been handed a wildcard by Belize - the nation she represents because her father was born there.

  20. Travel updates: Latest on Abellio Greater Anglia trainspublished at 11:31 British Summer Time 23 June 2016

    Unfortunately problems remain on train services between Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex and London due to flooding at Manor Park. 

    Abellio Greater Anglia, external are saying there will be no through trains to and from Norwich and London until at least midday. 

    Here's what is operating: 

    • There will be two trains an hour between Southend Victoria and Shenfield
    • One train an hour from Clacton on Sea to to Shenfield
    • On the hour between Norwich and Shenfield
    • A shuttle service will run on the Braintree branch
    • A shuttle service will operated on the Harwich branch
    • TfL Rail are running a shuttle train service between Shenfield and Ilford calling all stations
