A final update from the Ipswich Town press conference now.

Paul Digby and Adam Webster could prove to be Ipswich's only permanent signings of the summer, according to Mick McCarthy.

The Town boss said the club had become accustomed to making do with what's it got, and the squad was in good shape.

"We've got Bish (Teddy Bishop) coming back and Andre Dozzell coming into the first-team squad, so a bit of creativity," he said.

"Loan signings are probably going to be our best route."

Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy has paid tribute to England manager Roy Hodgson, who stepped down from his post yesterday after his team's loss to Iceland in the Euro 2016 tournament.

    Roy Hodgson

"I knew he'd resign. Roy is an honorable man. He's got nowhere to go after that," he said.

"I felt for him last night and think he took the pressure off all the players. People talk about Iceland, but just because it's a small country doesn't mean you can't have a decent football team.

"They've slapped a few people in their time. They are a good side and play like a team. That's what's stood out for me - it's the teams that are winning."

    Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy

"We're not going to go out and spend loads of money on someone. There's not a lot out there.

"I've got eight really solid defenders, a nucleus of midfielders. In centre midfield we're in good shape, what we've lost is in the wide areas.

"Wingers are few and far between."

He says Teddy Bishop could play on wing. "We may have to do something different. I'm cool with that. We're not going to be able to spend loads of money and pick who you like," he said.

"I'm looking forward to it (the new season). It's always exciting."

"What went wrong was they didn't play well. They got off to a wonderful start, but then they fell asleep and conceded a goal," he said.

"You know you're playing Iceland, they're going to be good at throw-ins and free kicks and you've got to stop them.

"The second goal should have been saved. But Iceland are no mugs. They're a better side than people are giving credit for, but England should have beaten them."
