    The chief executive of Bury Town Football Club, external is hoping some of their supporters will lend a hand to help get their new clubhouse ready by 20 August, when they host Spalding United in the FA Cup.

    Michelle Banfield-Curran, who said the project has been delayed as they had to put in some steel reinforcements, explained: "We've got a pre-season game against Braintree tomorrow and then AFC Sudbury on Friday, so we will have people on site.

    "I'm hoping they'll look at it and go 'Oh, they're not going to be finished' and volunteer some time to help us, because there's an awful lot of work still to be done."

    After the guilty verdicts were delivered by the jury at Ipswich Crown Court, the judge said: "This is overwhelming evidence.

    "The defendant here had an entrenched pattern of sexual misconduct towards young boys between the ages of nine to 13 years-old. It had been in existence for 40 years."

    Gerard Singer, who had been extradited from France to face trial, will be sentenced at a later date.

    I've been at Ipswich Crown Court, where Gerard Singer stood in the dock wearing glasses, a light blue shirt and dark trousers. 

    He had his hands clasped in front of him and looked intently at the court clerk as each count was read out to the jury foreman who replied "guilty" to every single one. That's 27 counts of sexual abuse against eight boys.

    There was no emotion at all from Singer.

    Gerard Singer, who's been found guilty at Ipswich Crown Court of 27 of the 28 offences he'd been charged with, left the UK in 1981 after he had been confronted about the abuse.

    Singer, who had been employed as a language teacher at St George's School, was convicted in 1998 of offences of sexual aggression on children under the age of 15 in France, relating to offences committed between 1994 and 1997.

    Sentencing has been adjourned to a later date.

    Ipswich Crown Court heard that Singer "abused his position of trust" while a teacher at St George's School, which was first based at Wicklewood in Norfolk, and then at Great Finborough in Suffolk.

    Prosecutor David Wilson said the teacher took advantage of his position by "befriending pupils before then engaging in acts of a serious sexual nature".

    He said gifts including a calculator and sweets were given to pupils to win their favour, and the abuse also happened on trips abroad.

    Gerard Singer, 69, has been found guilty of 27 of the 28 offences he was standing trial for at Ipswich Crown Court.

    The offences date from 1978 to 1981 and took place at St George's School, which was based at Wicklewood in Norfolk before it moved to Great Finborough in Suffolk in 1980.

    One former pupil told the court he was given wine, tied to a bed and woke to find he was in pain after being sexually assaulted.

    A former boarding school teacher has been convicted of sexually abusing former pupils at a school.

    He faced 28 charges relating to his time at St George's School, which was based at Wicklewood in Norfolk until it moved to Great Finborough in Suffolk.

    Singer, who most recently lived in north east France, has been convicted after a two-week trial at Ipswich Crown Court.

    A 40-year-old man has been remanded in custody after being charged with two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving in connection with a crash near Newmarket that led to a footballer losing his legs. 

    Jan Adamec, from Shetland Road, Haverhill, appeared at Peterborough Magistrates' Court wearing a grey sweatshirt, khaki trousers and trimmed beard. 

    His case has been adjourned until 8 August at Cambridge Crown Court. 

    Newmarket Town player Shaun Whiter, 27, had the amputations following the crash on Dullingham Road on 1 July. 

    His friend - Soham Town Rangers player Joey Abbs - was also seriously hurt.

    The 28-year-old, who was dogged by various issues last season, sat out Saturday's 2-1 victory in a pre-season friendly at League of Ireland side Shelbourne.

    "He's just got a bit of a sore hip-flexor and we're just having to manage it," McCarthy told BBC Suffolk Sport. "It's nothing to be concerned about, he'll be fine."

    Improvements to the stadium at Newmarket Town Football Club, external, which have cost £750,000, will be officially re-opened this afternoon.

    It's thought to be the first club in the country to replace its grass with a cork-filled 3G artificial pitch, which is illuminated by the very latest energy-saving flat glass LED floodlights. 

    Chairman John Olive said the players were "chewing at the bit" to try it out.

    "We've had one training session on it just to give them a taste, and today is our official opening," he said.

    Cambridgeshire Police have told us that Jan Adamec, 40, from Shetland Road, Haverhill, will now appear at Peterborough Magistrates Court, not Cambridge Magistrates Court as previously stated.

    Mr Adamec has been charged with two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, following the crash in Newmarket on 1 July, which led to Newmarket Town footballer Shaun Whiter having his legs amputated.

    I'm at Ipswich Crown Court, where the jury has been instructed to come back with a "unanimous verdict" in the trial of Gerard Singer who denies 28 charges of abusing nine former pupils at St George's School, between 1978 and 1981.

    The school was based at Wicklewood in Norfolk, and then Great Finborough in Suffolk. 

    After a two-week trial, the jury was sent out to begin considering its verdict on Friday morning and is resuming its discussions this morning.

    Strikers Brett Pitman and Freddie Sears were on target for Mick McCarthy's men, with a late spot-kick from Dylan Grimes halving the deficit. 

    "The pitch wasn't conducive to the ball being moved quickly" said McCarthy. "They were two good goals. I don't know about the penalty, but it made for a closer game anyway."
