    The chairman of Newmarket Town Football Club has described Shaun Whiter as "a local boy, a popular lad".

    John Olive said: "We've had flowers left here, people have left donations here, it's been quite tremendous, it really has.

    "And with Joey Abbs (pictured, also involved in the car crash), whose injuries fortunately weren't so severe but quite severe, it's really been unbelievable.

    "The amount of people that have come from all over East Anglia to wish them well and to try to do something for them is absolutely wonderful."

    "[It's a] community spirit I don't think I've ever seen as big before."

    Members of Newmarket Town Football Club, external have been visiting Shaun Whiter after he had both his legs amputated below the knee following a road crash on 1 July.

    Chairman John Olive said: "He's actually overcoming it [the injury] well, he's very,very positive, which is a wonderful thing.

    "All the football community in East Anglia, all the local teams have supported Shaun and they're all doing their own events to raise money for him."

    A man has been charged in connection with the crash and he is due before Peterborough Magistrates this morning.

    There's queuing traffic for four miles eastbound on the A14 in Ipswich at J53 (A1156 Whitehouse) because of an accident, which is now on the hard shoulder. 

    There are also delays westbound from Haughley because of a collision involving a motorbike.

    They weren't fancied by many people ahead of the tournament, but today... Portugal are champions of Europe.

    The Bicafe o Portugues in Ipswich was once again buzzing during and after the match, with a carnival atmosphere on Norwich Road.

    Joe Bailey, who runs a recording studio nearby, said: "All communities came out to celebrate, it was great fun.

    "The police were on the scene quickly and were really good - with one having fun photobombing."

    Norwich Road in Ipswich came to a standstill last night, for traffic at least, as people celebrated Portugal's 1-0 win over France to lift the Euro 2016 trophy.

    We start the day with the news a man has been charged in connection with the crash in Newmarket which led to a man having both his legs amputated below the knee.

    Newmarket FC player Shaun Whiter, 27, (pictured) had the amputations following the crash on 1 July. His friend Joey Abbs was seriously injured, while the pair were at the side of Dullingham Road.

    Jan Adamec, 40, from Shetland Road in Haverhill, has been charged with two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

    He's been held in custody since he was charged and is due to appear at Cambridge Magistrates Court this morning.
