UK Power Networks says it has timed work in Sudbury for the school holidays, and before the local carnival, to minimise the impact.

A spokesman said a road closure is needed on Friars Street, between Quay Lane and Blackfriars, in order to install new electricity cables and dismantle the overhead line.

He said the company was investing £80,000 in a project with the aim of increasing the resilience of electricity supplies to the town.

He said: "Advance warning signs are in place, and once work starts additional signs will make it clear businesses in Friars Street are open as normal."

"We're all trying to recover from it... you just don't need another road closure on top of that one."

The fire broke out in an 18th Century mansion, which was used by a nail salon and a charity shop, on the evening of 6 September and affected five businesses and 11 properties, resulting in about 20 people being made homeless.
