    A new season of telemark skiing, external gets under way at Hintertux in Austria this weekend for four-time British Champion Jasmin Taylor, external.

    Having been based at home in Ipswich during the summer months, the 23-year-old started pre-season in Austria earlier than usual with the rest of the British Ski and Snowboard, external team. 

    She said: "With glacier training the way it is, the weather is always so temperamental so you need to allow for 25% of those days to be lost due to the weather. 

    "So it's nice to have scheduled more time to allow for those days when you can't train."

    A pregnant woman who got stuck in floodwater said derogatory comments made about the incident have caused her upset.

    As we've been telling you this morning, comments were made on social media after Sherry Doran got stuck at Buttsbury Wash with her one-year-old son in the car, near Ingatestone, on Sunday evening.

    Comments included "stupidity knows no bounds" and "complete idiot". One comment was made by an Essex Fire and Rescue service worker who has since been sacked.

    The fire service said it took immediate action as it "does not tolerate derogatory language against members of the public".

    Ms Doran said she lives in Suffolk and was "unfamiliar" with the roads.

    She said: "I've read several derogatory comments online which have only added upset to what was already a distressing incident."

    Corrie Mckeague's mum says they're hoping people will visit the police pod that's being set up in the centre of Bury St Edmunds this Thursday and Friday, to view CCTV footage from the time the RAF Honington serviceman disappeared.

    Referring to the 23 people on the footage who are still unidentified, Nicola Urqhart said: "Some of these people you would probably only recognise them if it was yourself.

    "Quite a few of them I would think should be easily identifiable, so the police agreed to put this pod up.

    "There's no way each and every one of those 23 people has got something [or] anything to do with Corrie's disappearance... but we still don't know who they are."

    The organisation that runs the Ipswich foodbank, external needs your help.

    Families in Need (FIND) has been renting premises from the East of England Co-op for the past six years, but the land is now needed for redevelopment.

    Maureen Reynel from FIND says: "Perhaps there is something in Ipswich that is suitable for us.

    "It can't be a 'High Street', it isn't just a room, it isn't just a shop that we need. 

    "We need more than that - Ipswich without a foodbank - you can't even think about the issues that that would cause.

    In a statement, Nick Denny from the East of England Co-op says FIND's present premises were offered on a temporary lease six years ago: "We have since offered alternative accommodation, and have been told that none of our commercial properties quite meet their needs."

    The three-day event features a street market stretching from the Abbey Gardens to the Arc Shopping Centre with over 300 stalls, entertainment and even an opportunity to visit Santa Claus in his grotto.

    Four men arrested on suspicion of GBH after a man needed treatment for a gunshot wound have been bailed.

    The men, who are in their 20s and from Barnet, London, and Ipswich, were detained shortly before 03:00 yesterday.

    It followed an incident just after midnight at Siloam Place, where a loud noise was heard. 

    An hour later, an 18-year-old man arrived at Ipswich Hospital with a gunshot wound to his shoulder. His injury is not thought to be life-threatening.

    The four are due to return to police in February. 

  13. Devolution deal: Vote to produce Suffolk-based planpublished at 16:56 Greenwich Mean Time 23 November 2016

    Suffolk County councillors have sat down at Endeavour House this afternoon to return to the complex subject of devolution.

    They voted to seek more discussions with government, with the aim of producing an alternative Suffolk-based plan. 

    This follows the collapse of a devolution deal with Norfolk last week.

    There was little anger towards the Norfolk councillors who undermined that deal, but some criticism of the "charade" that had been the negotiations with government; one described the chain of events as a Brian Rix farce, alluding to the 1960s comic stage plays.

    Council leader Colin Noble said he saw it as an opportunity, not a set back, with the aim of driving forward the county's economy.

    Earlier we reported that EDF consultation documents, external for Sizewell C didn't include a mention of building a bypass to take vehicles away from four villages - Marlesford, Little Glemham, Stratford St Andrew and Farnham - which had been campaigning for a new road.

    However, Suffolk Coastal MP Therese Coffey has revealed the promise, external of £1m from the Department of Transport to build up a business case for the bypass scheme - known as the Suffolk Energy Gateway New Road.

    After a slow start to the season, the head coach of Ipswich's senior men's basketball team, external is optimistic his team can be successful this year.

    On Saturday, Nick Drane's side hammered Doncaster by 44 points in National League Division Two, external, meaning they've won three and lost three of their six matches to date.

    "If we can build some momentum and string some wins together then all you've got to do at Christmas is be in the mix," said Drane. 

    "I will say this, after losing our first two games we've changed quite a bit in terms of our style of play and that's worked."

    More good news for Ipswich Basketball Club, external off the back of Saturday's big win over Doncaster - senior men's captain Tom Sadler is available to play again after recovering from injury.

    "Now that Tom's coming back to fitness he's going to be able to give us something extra," head coach Nick Drane told BBC Suffolk Sport. 

    "He's not going to be scoring 25 points a game straight away but he's going to be an overwhelming presence on the team, in the locker room and on the court."

    Concerns have been raised that construction of a new nuclear power station at Sizewell will have an adverse effect on the nearby Minsmere nature reserve.

    The stage 2 consultation, external on Sizewell C starts today.

    Su Swallow, from the Theberton and Eastbridge Action Group, said visitors may be deterred from visiting the site during the construction of the power station.

    "We may well find that over a period of 10 years of construction they will be impacted by congestion, by the noise, and find it difficult," she said.

    "We wonder whether they will be so deterred that after a decade they may not come back. It will be hard to persuade them to come back."

    Lowestoft Town, external have announced that they'll now travel to Canvey Island on Saturday in the Ryman Premier Division.

    That's after the Trawler Boys' original opponents, Harlow Town, won in the FA Trophy last night, so are back in action in that competition again.

    Lowestoft, who were due to visit Canvey next Tuesday, will now have to agree to a date for the rearranged Harlow fixture.

  20. Autumn Statement: Living Wage to risepublished at 13:32 Greenwich Mean Time 23 November 2016

    The National Living Wage (NLW)  will increase from £7.20 to £7.50 in April next year, the chancellor has confirmed. 

    "That’s a pay rise worth over £500 a year to a full-time worker," he says. The NLW has replaced the minimum wage for workers aged over 25.
