    There were defeats for both Needham Market, external and Leiston, external in the Ryman Premier Division on Saturday.

    Needham, who would've gone joint top with a win, lost 2-0 to Tonbridge Angels while fourth placed Leiston went down 3-2 at home to Hendon.

    AFC Sudbury, external also missed out on points as they were beaten 4-2 at Folkestone Invicta.

    Lowestoft Town, external beat Burgess Hill Town 1-0 while Bury Town, external won 2-1 against Haringey Borough in the North Division.

    Bury St Edmunds, external recent upturn in fortune continued at the weekend as the Wolf Pack beat Barnstaple 33-27 at The Haberden to record their third successive win.

    The win lifts Gavin Hogg's men up to eighth in National League Two South, external.

    Try scorer Chris Lord said: "After a good start to the season there were two or three games where we hit a low patch, but luckily now we've managed to turn it around. 

    "They boys have really turned it on in training and we're starting to perform on the pitch as well, so it's a happy camp at the moment."

    Suffolk's Peter Wright (pictured) was beaten by eventual winner Michael van Gerwen in the semi-finals of the Grand Slam of Darts, external.

    The 46-year-old from Mendham, who beat Phil Taylor in the last-eight on Friday, lost 16-10. 

    World number one van Gerwen then beat James Wade 16-8 in yesterday's final.

    Ipswich Town, external boss Mick McCarthy didn't pull any punches when analysing his side's defending in Saturday's 2-0 defeat at home to Nottingham Forest.

    Two goals from Britt Assombalonga, the first after just 17 seconds, consigned the Blues to their second home loss of the season.

    "I started 4-4-2 and had to change it to try to get a foothold in the game and I didn't expect to have to do that after five minutes because of the way the game started," said McCarthy. 

    "Both goals were a catalogue of errors and dreadful goals to give away."

    There's been praise for the fire service, which spent nearly three hours tackling a major blaze at the historic Atterton and Ellis building on Hamlet Road in Haverhill last night.

    Tony Brown, UKIP county councillor for Haverhill East & Kedington, said: "There were concerns it could possibly get out of hand, but the firefighters did a fantastic job and managed to stop the building being totally destroyed. 

    "Obviously the internal structure, the woodwork, I should think [is] in a pretty sorry state."

    Nearly 50 firefighters spent about three hours at an old iron works factory in Haverhill last night.

    Investigators are trying to establish what caused it.
