  1. Corrie Mckeague case: Preparations at landfill site continue ahead of search published at 11:22 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2017

    Preparatory work continues at the landfill site at Milton, Cambridgeshire, which will be searched as part of the investigation into Corrie Mckeague's disappearance.

    bin lorry made a collection  shortly after the 23-year-old was last seen on CCTV in Bury St Edmunds - at 03:25 on 24 September.  

    Work is being carried out to move a large volume of bulk material and build access routes to allow the search to get under way. Police say it should start within the next seven days.

    Police say they will release no further details about today's arrest of a 26-year-old man who will be interviewed on suspicion of attempting to pervert the course of justice relating to information provided to the investigation.

  2. Man arrested in Corrie Mckeague case 'not driver of bin lorry' published at 11:09 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2017

    Suffolk Police says the man arrested in the case of missing serviceman Corrie Mckeague is not the driver of the bin lorry which collected from the refuse area where he was last seen on CCTV.

    A 26-year-old man was arrested earlier today and will be interviewed on suspicion of attempting to pervert the course of justice relating to information provided to the investigation.

    The BBC also understands the man is not related to the missing gunner, who was based at RAF Honington.

    The 23-year-old went missing in September after a night out with friends in Bury St Edmunds. He has yet to be found.

    Former Ipswich Town midfielder Ryan Stevenson says he has no plans to repeat last night's goalkeeping duties.

    The 32-year-old was between the posts for the full 90 minutes as his current club Raith Rovers lost 1-0 to Ayr United , as all three of Raith's keepers were injured.

    "It was strange, the closer it got to the game I got a bit more nervous," said Stevenson. "I obviously didn't want to let the boys down by making a mistake.

    "It was a nervous experience but one I can tick off my bucket list."

    Stevenson played for Town for a short period in 2012.

    The organiser of the Latitude Festival says the event continues to offer a unique experience for those attending.

    The main music acts for this year's event include Fleet Foxes, Mumford and Sons and The 1975 - who won a Brit Award last month - but there's also a wide range of dance and theatre on show.

    Melvin Benn, festival director, said: "It's become a phenomenal festivals for families, as everybody knows. It's become a phenomenal festival for artists making their breakthrough, whether it be on the Lake Stage for their first-ever festival appearance, or as a headliner as The 1975 are doing this year.

    "It's an opportunity for fans of The 1975 and Mumford & Sons to see Opera North and BalletBoyz and Matthew Bourne, and there's no other setting in the UK, no other setting in the world, where that happens."

  7. Pair who died on A142 namedpublished at 09:10 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2017

    A man and a woman who died in a crash on the A142 on Monday have been named by police.

    John Smith, 19, of Willow Park, Beck Row, Suffolk, and 74-year-old Wendy Wheatley, of Valentine Close, Manea, Cambridgeshire, were involved in a crash on Iretons Way, Mepal, at about 17:00.

    Mr Smith, who was driving a Ford Fiesta van, was pronounced dead at the scene.

    Ms Wheatley, a passenger in a Vauxhall Meriva, was taken to hospital but later died.

    The passenger of the van and the driver of the Vauxhall were both taken to hospital with serious injuries.

    Police are appealing for witnesses of the crash to come forward.

    The headline musical acts for this year's Latitude Festival have been revealed. 

    The 1975, Mumford and Sons and Fleet Foxes will be topping the bill at Henham Park in July. 

    The festival, now in its 12th year, kicked off in 2006 with the likes of Snow Patrol, Patti Smith and Paolo Nutini, and has grown ever since.

    It's now four defeats in a row for struggling Leiston, external after last night's 2-1 home loss to Merstham in the Ryman Premier Division, external .

    Having been serious title contenders for much of the season, the Victory Road side are now five points outside the play-off places.

    "It's the same old, same old, we just give soft goals away," said boss Glenn Driver.

    "I just feel whether we're losing a game or drawing a game I just don't see us winning football matches at this moment in time."

    Former Ipswich Town midfielder Ryan Stevenson played the full 90 minutes in goal as his current club Raith Rovers lost 1-0 to Ayr United in the Scottish Championship last night.

    With all three of Raith's keepers injured, they asked the SPFL, external to postpone the game, but their appeal was rejected.

    It will be a cloudy start to the night, with showers and longer spells of rain continuing to push in from the west.

    Skies will then clear and temperatures could fall low enough in some sheltered spots to allow a frost.

    Weather outlook

    Wednesday will get off to a cold and bright start.

    Thicker cloud and rain will eventually push in from the south-west, but there is still some uncertainty as to how quickly this will happen, and how far north the rain will get during daylight hours. 

    There'll be light to moderate south-westerly winds and highs of 9C (48F).

  20. Care workers' association 'glad' people feel they can report incidents of abuse published at 17:34 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2017

    The Suffolk Association of Independent Care Providers, external says it is glad people feel they can report abuse.

    The comments follow a Freedom of Information request by BBC's File on 4 , which revealed 633 reports of abuse have been made against home care workers in the county since 2013.

    Chair Hilary Gibbs said: "Nobody deserves to be treated that way.

    "I'm glad people feel confident enough to be able to report these incidents of abuse. It's unforgivable; there is just no excuse for it at all."
