Milton arrived at Portman Road from non-league Bury Town in 1987 for a fee of just £5,500.

The former midfielder made his debut for the Blues in December 1987, and went on to make more than 300 appearances for the first team, scoring 55 goals in all competitions.

After calling time on his playing days, the 53-year-old joined the coaching team at Ipswich in 1998, and has recently been the club's Director of Academy Sales.

In February, Milton was Prostate Cancer UK's guest of honour at the EFL Cup final at Wembley, after heading up TEAMITFC's cycle challenge, which has to date, raised more than £250,000 for the charity.

In a statement, Ipswich Town said: "There is no doubt he will be missed and everyone at the Club wishes him every success for the future. We do hope to see him back at Portman Road next season though, supporting Mick and the players."

  3. Prosecution begins in double-murder trialpublished at 12:16 British Summer Time 7 June 2017

A jury at the Old Bailey has been told how two men died from stab wounds, after violence flared at a travellers' site in Ipswich.

Barry Street, who was 32, and 18-year-old Nathan Oakley, were rushed to hospital where an emergency team tried in vain to save them both.

Mr Street was stabbed in the back as he was running, Mr Oakley in the chest.

On trial is Nelson Smith, who's 18, and denies two counts of murder and possessing a kitchen knife at the site last December.

He claims he stabbed the two men as he tried to defend a member of his family.

The jury's been told that the accused and the two victims all lived at West Meadows, which has 43 pitches.

The stabbings came after a fight between two women on the site, a dispute over a pitch allocation, and an allegation that Barry Street was a bully, who'd smashed a window with a can of drink.

The trial's expected to last two to three weeks.

  4. General election: Suffolk Coastal candidates give their views on Sizewell Cpublished at 11:16 British Summer Time 7 June 2017

The future development of Sizewell C has been one of the subjects on the agenda for candidates in the Suffolk Coastal constituency, during BBC Suffolk's Mark Murphy programme.

Labour's Cameron Matthews said: "What's very important is that local people do see the benefits of this because the country will of course benefit from the energy which is being produced but this will have a massive impact on the local community so I think it's very important that we manage to ringfence jobs but equally we need to invest in the local infrastructure."

Eamonn O'Nolan, candidate for the Green Party, said: "It is not going to create a huge number of jobs in Suffolk. It's probably not going to create many jobs at all in Suffolk. Most of the expertise is going to come in from overseas. The ownership is overseas and as I see it, most of the benefit will go overseas."

Conservative candidate Therese Coffey said: "The Suffolk 'energy' coast is well and truly contributing to the national grid which is why it matters that when we get this new nuclear power plant, which I hope we do, that we continue to make sure that we mitigate the issues which I know people are concerned about in its construction."

James Sandbach, candidate for the Liberal Democrats, said: "There are alarm bells ringing, I think the community feels we're not being told the whole story about what the full impact is going to be. I'm not actually anti-nuclear but the more I've looked at the proposals and the more you look at the cost of the proposals the more you look at the return you're going to get from the output... I don't support the whole development at Sizewell."

Also standing as an independent in the constituency is Philip Young.

"It's never been done before" he said. "It's the whole reason of the challenge.

"It would have been quite easy just to do it in hops, land in a field, refuel and then carry on again but that would just be too easy."

  15. Poultry farmer's concerns following latest bird flu outbreakpublished at 08:37 British Summer Time 7 June 2017

One of the biggest free range egg producers in south Norfolk says the latest outbreak of bird flu could seriously damage his business.

Warning signs have been put in the outbreak zone since the case was confirmed in a small flock at a smallholding near Scole at the weekend, and the 35 birds affected have been humanely culled.

    Warning signs for control zone

The site is just a few miles from Redgrave, where earlier this year 80,000 birds had to be killed after the disease struck two pig poultry units.

Alaistaire Brice, of Havensfield Eggs, external, says there are 200,000 free range hens within 10km of the outbreak and thousands more chickens bred for meat. Although he's outside the exclusion zone, he's put his 60,000 birds indoors.

He says bird flu has massive consequences for poultry producers.

    Quote Message

We follow the rules and regulations that Defra put in place - it's our livelihoods at the end of the day at stake - but what I would say to any backyard poultry keepers out there, they must take this seriously...put the relevant things in place...to try and mitigate this disease by managing your birds in the right and proper way."
